Libertarians Lose Ballot Status in New Mexico

Ballot Access News is reporting that the Libertarian Party has lost it’s ballot status in New Mexico due to Michael Badnarik’s poor showing in 2004. However, because of the various method available for qualification, the Constitution and Green Parties retain their access. The LP must now collect nearly 4,000 signatures to get back on the ballot.

This must particularly sting for the Badnarik campaign as they spent a great deal of time and money on a push to make a dent in New Mexico, claiming at one point to be polling at 5% in the state. Yet, in the end the ticket gathered only 2,382 votes or 0.31% of the total, and substantially short of the 0.50% needed to retain a spot on future ballots.
