Potts Has Best Tax Plan?
Local governments in Virginia are worried about property taxes. The current candidates for governor are offering their plans up to the people, but each has a different approach… and neither the Democrat nor the Republican plans are playing very well with the towns that would be impacted.
However, it seems that Russ Potts (independent candidate for governor) has come up with something that is drawing some support from these communities, if not an actual endorsement.
From WDBJ - Channel 7:
The Virginia First Cities Coalition has 15 members including Danville, Lynchburg, Martinsville and Roanoke. The group estimates Kilgore’s plan to cap the increase in annual assessments would cost its members more than 8.5 million dollars annually. While Kaine’s 20 percent exemption would reduce their property tax revenues by 134 million dollars a year. The group will not endorse a candidate for governor, but members say independent candidate Russ Potts more closely reflects their views on tax policy.

It seems like the positive media attention is rolling in for Potts.

I’m starting to wonder how long it will be before people consider this a 3-way race. He was at 9% in the last poll I saw… if he can creep into the low or mid-teens, it’s going to be VERY hard to ignore him and keep him from debating.

Yep. I hope Potts gets in the debates. I also hope he causes the R that Potts is running against to lose, if Potts is going to to play the role of spoiler.
I love the underdog! Most of the time they run against entrenched interests, no matter the party. Potts is no exception.

I hope he gets into the debates, too.

I really like Potts. He diverges from my views many places, but he’s much closer than either Kaine or Kilgore.
In Richmond, I’ve seen more Potts yard signs than Kilgore signs.
