I hear these comments all the time from people about the Constitution Party. I look at it this way. Any candidate of any party has the chance to win if everyone who refuses to vote third party because "they dont stand a chance" would vote for what they truly believe. I dont believe in the LP, but those that do, should vote their conscience if thats what they truly believe in instead of holding their nose and voting for the lesser of two evils. Evil is evil period

I don't really see the problem with the first one. It seems pretty normal for political groups to see themselves as part of, or even leaders of a movement. Do a google search on "Dean movement" and you will get some hits from respectable sources. It's also not at all unusual for people involved in politics to think that their side is just plain right and the other side is wrong.

As for the second point, you're right on the money. It was a dumb thing to say (although, it's possible that the speaker was talking about a State Representative or State Senate seat; however, it's still out of touch for them to think that they can realistically get one of those). I remember about 6 years ago when I was getting LP News. There was a segment where they asked various people to predict the party's future in 100 words or less (or something as silly as that). Steve Dasbach, who was then the party's uncontested later, made a statement saying, "I really believe that 2002 or 2004 will be the year we finally break through and elect someone to a high-level office, like governor or U.S. Senator." I remember thinking, "I hope this guy knows something I don't, because, from what I can tell, that's completely impossible." But it turned out he was just babbling. And now the party is bankrupt.

No problem. No party is perfect, and that applies to the LP, too. Every (major and semi-major) party has people in it that say stupid things from time to time. I'm sure I say plenty of stupid things. :)
