I love the perspective. As an Independent voter I sensed a note of disappointment in the idea of a Libertarian, Featherman, registering Republican for a campaign. Don't be. Its just tactical voting. The only responsible way to vote in the 21st century. As a tactical voter I may change my Independent registration to Republican so that I can vote for him. Or, I may change to Democrat to contribute to that primary from my perspective. George Washington, in his farewell address as the first president of the United States, warned Americans against "the baneful effects of the spirit of Party...". I think that perspective is just as valid for the third parties. And even for my rapidly growing Independent column. I will register for a Party just to vote against their status quo candidates. I think Republicans may (just barely) stay in power due to that point. I think in 2006 and 2008 though a Ross Perot type independent candidate could make waves due to this. 3rd parties need to capitalize on this, but they'd need someone with Perot-type money.
