Fusion is cool, but here are some contrarian thoughts: Certain parties like the Greens wouldn't buy it. They would run a pencil neck geek candidate against Ghandi returned from the grave, if Ghandi was a Democrat. They wouldn't endorse Martin Luther King if he ran as a Dem.

And would major parties even want the cross endorsements of established, national third-parties? The examples in NY deal with localized psuedo-parties like "Conservative" or "Working Families." Do you think John Kerry would have welcomed a Green endorsement? How about a Socialist Party endorsement? Would Bush have wanted an American Nazi Party endorsement?

I'm the contact (formerly) from Montana for the New Majority Education Fund. I've moved to Massachusetts where a coalition of unions and community oprganizations is running a ballot initiative to re-legalize fusion voting (www.massballotfreedom.com) and I'm directing the effort.

The New Majority Education Fund continues to be a good sourcee of information about fusion voting. But you may also want to visit the site of the New York Working Families Party (www.workingfamiliesparty.org) which has effectively used New York's allowancee of fusion to build a robust, independent electoral voice for low-income and working families.
