I think the principle of reporting on international politics if it's connected to the ideologies of an American party is a fair one. I really want to hear news about what's going on in Costa Rica with the Movimiento Libertario, and I confess I'm more than a little curious to see what's going to happen in Canada, if the Greens or even perhaps the Libertarians will emerge as a force up there like the NDP did now that Harper's scared off the social liberals and Martin's scared off the economic conservatives.

I think that there SHOULD be coverage of third parties in other countries if they are in some way related to similiar American political movements. It would assist many of us to see what works effectively in other places as well.

The Greens are an international movement - and what happens elsewhere will affects its movement in the USA.

The Libertarians are doing pretty well in Costa Rica - and few actually know a lot about them - myself being one of those people. I

If nothing else it would be nice to be more informed about how things are doing outside of our borders. Political ideologies don't usually stay within borders for a very long time anways. ( look at what Communism has done to our world )

I don't know. I would think it should done only if some connection or analogy to the US can be made. Otherwise, no.

I think that the amount of coverage on international parties is just about right. The US is virtually the only electoral dictatorship with more than one party, so international coverage, in that way, is less relavent. The UK is trending toward duopoly, and to a lesser extent, so is Canada. As English speaking countries, these are of particular interest to us here in the US. The Canadian NDP is making proportional representation a key element of its platform, and that's a great thing.

I believe coverage of alternative parties in Canada, Australia, the UK and perhaps a few other countries would be interesting. I must confess I could not care less about minor parties in Taghikistan or some place like that.

Sounds good. However, limit it to Canada, England, and Israel. Those are the countries people are interested in.

It would be interesting for some perspective on other countries' political party makeups especially if there were some international members posting. But, as RJ pointed out the definition of thrid party may be blurry... i.e. Israel, 14 parties over 120 seats...whew. But then again it is a parliamentary system.

Well, that's true... but there are essentially 2 very major parties and then several second and third tier ones.

I think I might mix in a little more coverage here and there, particularly when there's an election coming (like in Canada).

Thanks for the input all!

Well, the name of your blog wouldn't apply anymore. In Canada for example you have four major parties.

I would not mind some coverage of Canada's third parties. The Costa Rican Libertarian goings on are interesting, mostly becuase they had a huge battle for control between the small and big L factions and the big L guys lost. They predicted total failure for the movement in Costa Rica but things have never been better.

I think selected stories would be great and I know they would love to have the coverage.
