Canada Results Update
From CTV’s live streaming newscast, currently leading or elected…
Conservatives – 120 seats
Liberals – 97 seats
Bloc Quebecois – 50 seats
New Democrats – 25 seats
Independent – 1 seat
The Green who was apparently leading earlier tonight has fallen behind.

January 23rd, 2006 at 11:32 pm
Conservative – 123 (gain of 24 seats)
Liberal – 103 (loss of 32 seats)
Bloc Quebecois – 50 (loss of 4 seats)
New Democrats – 31 (gain of 12 seats)
Independent – 1 (unchanged)
So pretty much the Liberals and Conservatives switched positions, although the Conservatives are in a lesser position due to some of the Liberals’ support going to the New Democrats, whose seats go up more than 50%.
Greens took 4.4% of the vote, mainly in British Colombia, so the Cascadia region remains the Greens’ strongest region in North America. (Cascadia is Oregon, Washington State, and B.C., which by the way is a region that kinda wants to break away from the USA and Canada

By the way, was looking at the results on theglobeandmail.com, and they list a Communist Party and a Marxist-Leninest Party. What’s the difference?

Greens…almost 5% of the vote and no seats? Bummer. They need proportional representation in Canada. Are New Democrats moderate?

The New Democrats are more liberal then the Liberal Party. New Democrats fit into the category of a party of the left while the Liberal Party is more in the center left

Actually, I just haven’t had a chance to update the site since last night… so those were projected wins as of the time I went to sleep.
Also, one independent did win.

Actually, the Communist party menioned int he post above is sort of like the CP here. Kind of waht they used to call “eurocommunist back in the day. A non-revolutionary, democratic Left formation. The Marxist-Leninist Party is some sort of Maoist, or even “Hoxaist” (as in Enver Hoxa, for bolshevik despot of Albania) party.
