Jeffers isn't even running on smoking issues, as far as I can tell. She's got that crowd in the bank already. The serious issues pressing the state are what she's been focused on. Taxes, roads, schools, immigration policy, and eminent domain. It would be foolish to underestimate her. She's got good momentum going.

The reason she had a nice crowd was because she is a bar owner, who is involved in lawsuits against the county over a smoking ban and cigarette fee/tax that has been ruled unconstitutional. Given Peter Hutchinsons presence in the race that will be the only issue she gets traction on. Also keep in mind Peter Hutchinson had 1100 people at his announcment.

Last time Tim Penny recived 16.18% while a strong Green recived 2.54% but there seems to be less overlap between the Green Party and Independence Party. The Green party at the time had major party status and debate access as Jeffers will not have that.

I'd agree with Austin on this.

Look at that photo.

That's a Libertarian press conference? You've got to be kidding me.

I could see a Thompson/Jeffers ticket.

It'd have a "Thomas Jefferson" ring to it -- oh think of the marketing on that one!

Of course, I'm speaking clearly as a Ron Paul Republican here. I do know that whoever the Republicans run in 2008 won't be enough to beat Hillary, so once again, a vote for the LP would be giving a vote to the Democrats (this is mainstream thinking, not mine).

I think she could break out higher than 2%, maybe in the 3-5% range. Whatever the result it will be a big improvement over recent years considering there was no Libertarian candidate at all in 2002 and in 1998 the Libertarian only won 0.34%...

After watching her announcement speech I'll even go a step beyond this and say that if she does win better than 3-4% of the vote, she should be considered as a Presidential or Vice-Presidential candidate for 2008... excluding the entry of a major name like Ed Thompson.

I thnk she looks like a strong candidate. She'd have my vote. Legitimacy means a lot, and she's a legitimate candidate.

Having Bumper stickers in an office does you no good, I'll tell you when I see one but so far I haven't seen a bumper sticker for anyone but US Senate candidates.

Also unfortanatly for Sue she is getting no media. I think we're really talking 2% at best.

The libetarian party in this state just doesn't have any traction as long as the Independence Party keeps running candidates as the two parties are very similar.
