Strayhorn Stumping for Signatures

From News 8 in Austin, Texas…

The biggest race at Manor Downs this weekend was the race for governor.

Independent candidate Carole Keeton Strayhorn stopped by the racetrack to collect petition signatures. She needs 45,540 signatures to officially get on the ballot.

The signatures have to come from voters who didn’t participate in the March 7 primary.

Strayhorn said the petition effort is going well and she’s focused on the campaign. Her Manor Downs visit was to support bringing in video lotteries to help fund schools.

“It was a myth that the lottery was ever devoted to education. I want these video lotteries at racetracks to raise money, not just to cut property tax, but to find new dollars for primary education and secondary education,” Strayhorn said.

Strayhorn said the upcoming special session next month is “too little, too late” to fix the state’s education problems.

Voters can also sign the petition to put her on the ballot online.

    Inquiring minds want to know
If Kinky Friedman takes a dive
    and supports Strayhorn 100%

would that result in the next
    Independent Govenor??????

I don’t know the details of the race to well, but it seems to me Strayhorn is in this race for no other reason to make Kinkys petetion drive more difficult. Maybe poll #’s have changed her initial objective, but as I see it there is only one independent in the race and his name is Kinky.

Strayhorn is in the “indpendent” race because she was going to be crushed in the Republican primary. She is still a Republican. Kinky will make the ballot. I am working in Harris County (largest in Texas) and have seen good numbers of petition signatures flowing. Kinky will not be “diving” either.
