Wednesday’s Candidate: Richard Mack
TODAY’S CANDIDATE OF THE DAY IS…
Richard Mack, the Libertarian for U.S. Senate representing the state of Arizona.

Mack is the former Sheriff of Graham County. In 1994 he was the first Sheriff in the country to file a lawsuit against the Brady bill, ultimately winning a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision. However, he was defeated for re-election in 1996 and has since set off on a new career as an author and consultant in police misconduct cases.
Mack originally launched a campaign for governor of Utah in 2004, but dropped out of the race to pursue a national audience on the Showtime reality series “American Candidate” hosted by Montel Williams.
His current campaign site is pretty basic, especially considering his impressive level of experience and that he (presumably) has the campaign resources needed to make a good showing in this race.

Your right his website sucks. It needs some work.
But he seems like a tough dude. Wish there was more on him.

Austin,
Thanks for the positive coverage of libertarian candidates and party officials. Every little bit helps!

Does anybody know much about this “American Candidate” reality show? I’ve never heard of it.

yeah, it was a barely watched Showtime show in 2004. I believe the premise was to find a candidate “selected by the American people” and somehow (maybe it was all a joke) put them up for presidential consideration. I think it was kindof a gamble that could have turned out a lot better than it did, but I guess was worth a shot (dropping out to be on that show). Some of the contestants were actually somewhat known in political circles( or related to famous people, like Richard Gephardt’s daughter) and have run for office since.
