Yeah, Walberg pretty much sucks on social issues, but he’s pro-gun rights and a solid economic libertarian. That’s more than could be said of Schwartz.

Chris, yes, I agree George Allen is not a full libertarian. But he is a friend of libertarians. His door is open to us, and that’s worth a lot.

I’d imagine even Eric would agree that the man’s signature issues are not libertarian: amending the constitution to ban gay marrige and flag burning. And if you don’t believe those are his signature issues, then you haven’t been in Virginia lately. Unfortunately for Virginia Republicans, Allen is running the Kilgore campaign strategy. It failed for Kilgore.

Drolet is a racist and a faux libertarian. Real libertarians have bigger things to worry about than whether or not the University of Michigan wants diversity in the classroom.

And “white supremacist”? Really. I’m as fluent in Spanish as any white guy could possibly be. Mexican Spanish, to be exact. I’ve had more Mexican girlfriends in my life than Carter’s have pills. I’ve traveled to no less than 12 () Mexican States from Veracruz to Baja.

I am a mainstream libertarian. From that perspective Allen looks pretty damn good.

I’d also point out that the RLC just held its National Convention in Orlando. Some quite hardcore libertarians were there, and Allen won the straw poll. He is clearly the favorite amongst libertarian Republicans at this point.

And a personal note, since you divulged in it yourself.

Allen deserves great praise and support for his corageous stance against political correctness of the Left. Come on, using a term like “Macaca” is now outlawed according to Liberals. Have we lost that much humor in our society. All Libertarians should rally to Allen’s side on that one issue alone. I say ‘F’ political correctness!! It is the greatest scourge in America today.

But civil liberties? Come on. That’s for the ACLU. They’re a comunist front.

Seriously, though, if so-called libertarians gave Democrats the same passes they give Republicans, then there would hardly be a Democrat in Congress who wasn’t a libertarian.

The term “libertarian” has ceased meaning anything other than economic conservative. Not even “fiscally responsible” or “pro-free market,” but right-wing to the core. If repression and capitalism collide, the “libertarian” will always side with further repression.

He did help Virginia Tech get into the ACC a few years ago, and he did poke fun of my brother-in-law for wearing a Maryland Terps hat, so he does have that going for him. But not quite enough to earn this libertarian’s vote.

If he does get the nomination, he’s lucky that another popular Virginia politician recently dropped out of the 2008 race. Mark Warner would have mopped the floor with Allen in a 2008 presidential show-down (at least in Virginia).

Sorry, I disagree. Remember, George Allen was a friend of the Republican Liberty Caucus back in the early 1990s. He even used the “libertarian” label a couple times. Plus, former NM Gov. Gary Johnson has toyed with the idea of running for the GOP nomination. Even Rudy Guiliani has been tagged by the media recently as “leaning libertarian,” though he’s much more of a Moderate in reality.

You bash the “Dems and Repubs” equally. But keep in mind it’s the Republicans who have helped libertarians with ballot access over the years – look at Arnold vetoing the bills last week outlawing paid petitioning in California. Meanwhile, it’s the Democrats who have blocked us libertarians from getting our initiatives on the ballot in Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Michigan and many other states.

A truly libertarian Republican has about as much chance of securing the Republican nomination for president as a truly progressive Democrat does… That is to say, not a chance in hell.

Those parties are run by the NeoCons and the DLC respectively and to win their noms, you have to dance to their tune.

This is exactly why I vote third party.
