But the best vote in the MI Governor’s race is for a truly principled freedom-lover Libertarian Greg Creswell.

Their competititors the Detroit Free Press allows ZERO conservative/libertarian voices in their paper. Thus, the explanation for why the Detroit News is views as “more conservative.”

The Detroit News on Friday endorsed a third-party candidate over the two major parties in the 7th Congressional District, which includes Battle Creek.

Said the News: “In the open 7th District, the major party choices are the far-right Tim Walberg and the far-left Sharon Marie Renier. We’ll shun the extremes and take our chances on the Libertarian candidate, Robert L. Hutchinson, a retired Air Force major from Dexter.”

“Wow,” said Hutchinson, a World War II veteran. “I hadn’t heard, no. But the reaction is ‘wow.’”

The congressional seat is open because incumbent Rep. Joe Schwarz, R-Battle Creek, was defeated in the Republican primary in August.

In interviews Friday, Walberg and Renier distanced themselves from the extremist label. Walberg also faulted the paper, which leans right.

“It’s unexpected,” said Walberg of the decision. “Bottom line is the Detroit News is not a paper in our district. They don’t understand our community.”

Renier said they did understand Walberg, however.

“I think they’re telling people not to vote for Walberg because he’s a kook,” she said. “I think that they’ve figured out not to vote for him, and they generally endorse Republicans.”

Walberg said he wasn’t interviewed by the paper.

Jeff Hadden, deputy editorial page editor for the News, said he didn’t know if Walberg was interviewed. He said endorsements can be based on voting records and public statements, though.

Hutchinson, meanwhile, said he didn’t want his wife to find out about the endorsement. Even the remote chance that he might win the race and take her to Washington, D.C. — “that madhouse” — was cause for concern.

Hutchinson has campaigned on a platform of reduced military presence overseas, citing entanglements from the Korean War to Iraq. He has said he does not expect to win the seat, but wants to bring attention to the issue.

In 2004, the News endorsed Schwarz over Walberg and four other candidates in the Republican primary, Hadden said, and again chose Schwarz in the general election over Renier.

Also in this year’s race is U.S. Taxpayer candidate David Horn, who continually tells voters to vote for Walberg.

Beat the Liberal-biased media; Vote Libertarian!!

Anarchism raised it’s ugly head in the 1970s within the Libertarian Party, and again in 1984 with the David Bergland Campaign for President. But it has been repeatedly beaten down by more mainstream Libertarian Party members.

One can only suspect that UA is a bitter loser, thus the vitriol that spits out of his mouth for the Libertarian Party of Michigan.

Actually, the MI LP is not in a “sorry state” as UA proposes. In fact, they have more elected officials than ever before. They have two very excellent city council people in St. Clair Shores and Hazel Park. Very professional, “edgy” young woman and young man.

I’d say the MI LP is like the “punk rock libertarians.”

As for their candidate for Governor, I’ve heard him on the radio, and he’s quite articulate.

UA could be biased against running black people as Libertarians. Sad, very sad indeed. I wouldn’t take his word on this for nothing.

Proposal 2 is funded by white supremacists. It would prohibit government programs from, for example, targetting young girls. In CA where a similar proposal was passed, they even tried to ban women’s health clinics.

And as far as Hutchinson goes – I saw this old bastard in a debate. Holy shit, he was bad. Completely and totally embarassing. He’s libertarian on exactly one issue – foreign policy. He made blatantly racist comments, for which he was heckled from the crowd (talking about “importing Asians and Latinos” and “we need to stop doing that”). But most of the time, he performed like Admiral Stockdale.
