GE,

You've no idea of his upbringing.
I wasn't homeschooled. I went to public school, and now attend a liberal university. My dad is a Republican, and my mom is a Reagan Republican.
And yet we ended up with similar views, how?
I read everything from Marx to Buchanan. From Smith, to Rand. I simply came to a logical conclusion that the CP was the best way to go (with some Libertarian influences). It's amazing how you denounce prejudice and collectivism, and then start grouping people and generalizing.

Not all homeschooled kids are brainwashed loons. Probably more like half. Also, it's worth noting that the State-worship that gets pushed in government schools has the potential to brainwash any kid who doesn't make an effort to educate himself.

Agreed. I just hope he gets out on his own, gets access to some new perspectives, and can liberate himself from his sheltered, abusive, and North Korean-esque upbringing.

LOL! The homeschoolers breed like rabbits. You got that right. There are homeschoolers that know that got like ten kids each compared to their public school counterparts that have maybe two or three. I find that really funny. :)

What about that bitch of a hangup "micro-evolution" that is needed to prove that psuedo-science as fact. You know since its never been observed ever. I admire you and your faith. It is strong.

Refer to the Penn & Tellar episode on this very topic.

There is no point in debating with people who deny scientific facts.

Exactly...you acutually believe in Darwin and "the acceptance of evolution". Haven't you heard that most of that garbage doesn't hold water? What about all the complete frauds -- proven frauds, mind you -- that are being taught in our schools today. Let alone all of the more "enlightened" countries east of us. Blah

I'm not knocking "the kid" (he's an adult male to me) for running for office. I'm not knocking him for being home-schooled. I'm knocking his parents for filling his head full of more dangerous lies than those forced upon children in government schools.

I know that there is a need for educational reform. I'm not a fan of the current public education system. But the real reason for concern is the encroaching religious indoctrinization of the youth. The U.S. ranks next to last among industrialized nations in acceptance of evolution. The only country in which fewer people believe Darwin is ISLAMIC TURKEY. This is why our kids are doing poorly in science.

There are two threats to long-term prosperity in America - religion (home and abroad) and protectionism/nationalism. When the two combine, they are a powerful anticapitalist force. Since these homeschoolers breed like rabbits - another reason that test scores are down - while educated and wealthy people have 1 or 0 kids, the United States and its people are in trouble.

GE,

I'm sure that was a typo on Trent's part regarding the remark about Sherman. Just about all Southrons know by heart the names of Sherman and Grant.

You shouldn't knock the kid running for office or for being home-schooled by his parents. There is a reason why Americans are consistently ranked in the upper teens in arithmetic and sciences -- and falling. The American product thinks along the lines as yourself. Perhaps I am no different but I am aware enough to see its effects. Washington controls our schools and its curriculum. Part of the encroaching gov. thing. The State education agenda is more to the social science's (why its ok that Tommy has two dads), tolerance, multiculturalism, and forced guilt. Its more of a indoctrination than it is a education. Certainly its not hard to see when compared to earlier generations and weighed against the rest of the world. Oh enlightenment and its philosophers!
