LP draft movement for Dallas County Sheriff in 2008
Libertarian Rose Mercer finished with an impressive 28% of the vote in a two-way race last fall in a Justice of the Peace election against a longtime GOP incumbent. There’s a movement to draft her into the 2008 race for Dallas County Sheriff, which will feature the incumbent, Lupe Valdez, a Democrat, and Lowell Cannaday, an Irving City Councilman vying for the Republican nomination.
Mercer has said she expects to remain involved with the LP in 2008, but is unsure of what capacity.

That would be pretty sweet; both parties have made absolute asses of themselves in the Sheriff’s office.

Was the contest for Justice of the Peace a partisan race?

I believe so, yes.

In Texas, the only non-partisan races are city council and school board races. If I am found to be in error though, someone correct me.
But constables, JPs, commissioners…all of those positions are partisan.
