Constitution Party candidate running for Congress in Concord
There is a new entry in the race for Marty Meehan’s 5th Congressional District seat.
Kevin Thompson, a 29-year-old Brockton resident, has thrown his hat in the ring. Thompson, an assistant pastor at the North Baptist Church in Brockton, is running as a representative of the Constitution Party. He is a first-time candidate.
He also is the principal of the 80-student South Shore Christian Academy in Weymouth.

Although Brockton is not located within the state’s 5th Congressional District, Thompson said he chose to run “because it was where our nation first began to act.”
“Previous to this, we had only debate, discussion, complaints and dissatisfaction,” he wrote in an e-mail. “Our nation began to move toward greatness when the brave men of Concord took up arms in defense of liberty. Once again liberty must be defended, not with arms but with courage.”

It sounds like he can’t start working on his petitions until Meehan officially announces he is resigning (which is expected to be on 9 May).

He’ll get on the ballot. He has one of the premier petitioners in the country involved in the Massachusetts Constitution party who is supporting him and I am quite sure he will make sure that Kevin gets the signatures he needs.

I am officially announcing my candidacy on May 12 at 5:00pm over at the Old North Bridge in Concord, MA. In the article referenced above, there is one error. I am the principal of the South Shore Christian School in Brockton, MA.

This representative of the Constitution Party of Massachusetts is lying! He says that our Founding Fathers were christian and our constitution was founded on the bible. Nothing could be farther from the truth!
The founding fathers were by and large Deists, not christians. In addition, after seven and a half months of strenuous debate on the subject of religious language in the constitution, they decided that a completely secular document would be the best way to ensure liberty for all. Men such as James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, amongst others, rarely had anything good to say about christianity, or organized religion of any sort, and quite to the contrary are on record critizing those forces most strongly.
