Get on all ballots and draft him, Its obvious the country is yearning for some alternative and yet these third parties will not do the necessary work to gaurantee a nationwide ballot access. If they cannot do it this time with a 14 percent congressional approval rating and 28 percent Pres approval rating they never will..... Just do it, and do it now.

Andy, you have a point about Ron Paul; he has the possibility of getting a significant number of votes. Not as gop nom.; he won't get that. But as a Libertarian or Lib./Const. fusion candidate. He would pick up some gop, independent & even a few leftist votes. But generally the dem. & leftist vote would be put off by his overturn R.v.W. position. He is now & would be a spoiler for the lib. nominee who can manage a fusion/alliance with the greens. That is my problem with Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is getting more attention by speaking at the Republican debates than he did during his entire 1988 campaign as a Libertarian (which I actively supported). And a clear subtheme at the debates and in the coverage is that he is a "Libertarian" running in the Republican primaries.

Soon Giuliani & Romney will be saying Ron is a "Libertarian" who does not belong in the Republican primaries. So Ron is doing a service for the alternative parties by taking a principled position that so clearly marks him as outside the GOP.

And in fact Ron Paul is a life member of the Libertarian Party. He joined as a life member in 1987 at the California LP convention, where he violated Gresham's Law by paying his membership dues in Gold.

Ghoststrider, Am I still “thumbs up”? I personally would prefer to see Ron Paul quit his campaign which is as a conservative republican & declare he is a libertarian & put a large “L” after his name in Congress. Andy, where would he get these millions of votes? Republicans? I don’t think so."

Ron would get those votes from Libertarians and small "l" libertarians, Constitution Party supporters, pissed off Republicans, independents, and even some people from the left who want to vote for an anti-war and pro-civil liberties candidate.

If Ron Paul switched at some point, he would get less attention than as a GOP candidate. However, he would easy receive more attention than any previous LP candidate. A lot more people know about this Ron Paul guy these days and even hardcore leftists are willing to overlook some of his other stances because of his honesty on the war and other things.

I think this guy is an idiot. Ron Paul can do much more by staying in the GOP and actually getting some work done.

However, I agree with what Timothy West said. During his last two years in office, he can safely be a Libertarian and earn the title of the "First Libertarian Congressman." That would be cool.

Cynicism and defeatism are NOT options to be entertained.
"We are in the eleventh hour of losing this Nation..."

Consider the only Conservative Presidential Candidate...

Welcome my name is: Joel Lemieux I am retired and currently live in the beautiful mountains of Western NC... I Have been an avid supporter of Dr Ron Paul... "We have to get Ron Paul elected, firstly and foremost, in the primaries"... Then on to the Presidency!!!

http://leadership2008.bravehost.com

However, if this is to come about (Ron Paul 2008) we will require a war chest... We are attempting to get (1) one Million people to send Ron Paul only $7.00 each per Month... Thanks... Joel...

The minute Ron Paul joins the LP presidential race he ceases to become 'high profile.' That’s the reality we live in gentlemen like it or not. That’s why he’s running for the GOP nomination and is a Republican in Congress."

Good point, however, I think that Ron as the LP Presidential candidate would be more high profile than any Presidential candidate that the LP has run before, including when Ron was the candidate back in '88. I think that with Ron as the LP Presidential candidate the LP could finally smash the million vote barrier, and that he'd stand a legitimate chance of getting a few million votes.

The LP is useful more for local election than is its for statewide or national elections. That's the way it should be used and developed.

And as for you Eric, since you're nothing more than poisonous snake, it's doubtful the GOP in the 14th district would trust you any further than they could throw you, so don't get your hopes up. By the way, since its Wednesday, you are you camapaigning for today, Root or Guliani?

Ron Paul should join the LP for the last few months of his Congressional term. That would certainly help the Republican Party find a replacement for his Congressional seat.

The pro choice (progressive) position litmus test has approached a mandate since the Supreme Court has become so stacked in favor of overturning Roe v Wade. Ron Paul's position to overturn will alienate most of them. Let's face it , Ron Paul's candidacy has become so problematic for the LP that the sooner he loses the nomination the better. & welcome him into the lp race like you would welcome a lead life preserver.

I know that. But I dont think he wants it."

You are probably right that he doesn't want it, but that wasn't my point. My point was that Ron is still a Life Member of the Libertarian Party and that he has never renounced his Libertarian Party membership.

"As for the pro-choice and open borders issue…

You people accuse the CP of being anti-drug, and anti-gambling.

The fact is, both parties have large areas of dissention on those issues."

I don't think that everyone in the Constitution Party (or any other party for that matter) has the exact same views. There is dissention within every party.

From what I've seen from the LP and the CP it seems to me that there is more dissention within the LP on immigration/borders and abortion than I've seen or heard about in the CP on drugs and gambling, but I don't doubt that there are some CP members who are more "liberal" on drugs and gambling than others.

As has been discussed on here before, Ron Paul has a lot of crossover appeal with the Libertarian Party and the Constitution Party. However, as things stand right now, he probably will not seek the nomination of either of these parties and will drop out of the Presidential race if he doesn't get the Republican nomination.
