(Some) Prohibitionists Nominate Dodge
The split in the Prohibition Party continues, and earlier this week one faction picked a Presidential ticket. From Ballot Access News…
The faction of the Prohibition Party that recognizes Earl Dodge as national chairman held its national presidential convention on June 12 in Arvada, Colorado, at a church. Delegates from three states were in attendance. The convention chose Earl Dodge for president and Howard Lydick for vice-president.
Dodge running again should come as a shock to no one. Earl Dodge Howard Lydick was this faction’s ticket in 2004, when they drew 140 votes. This was the lowest number of votes received by any Presidential campaign with ballot access. The ticket was on the ballot in Colorado where it received all 140 votes, finishing far behind even Gene Amondson and his 378 votes.
Dodge was also the Presidential nominee in the following years…
2000 – 208 votes (all from Colorado)
1996 – 1,298 votes
1992 – 961 votes
1988 – 8,002 votes
1984 – 4,243 votes
And, as if that wasn’t enough, he was a candidate for VP in 1980… 7,206 votes. And in 1976 for VP… 15,932 votes.
So, if Dodge qualifies for the ballot, he will be making (at least) his ninth appearance on a Presidential ticket.

Some parties should really just die. I support third parties, but ones that don’t put up any effort should just die.

Actually, there is no split in the Prohibiton organization. The vast majority far outnumber the “three states” “Dodge goup”— the term used in the ongoing litigation.
The “Dodge group” refuse to accept the majority decision of 2003 to not re-elect the “Dodge group.”
Courts have ruled for decades that parties are entitled to define their membership. The “Dodge group” are not the organization, are not even a “faction” of it—but are EX-members.
The “Dodge group” has evidently shrunk even further since their filing in court alleging some 7 or 8 or so signers.
The acutal nominee, Rev. Gene Amondson, was on the ballot not only in Colorado but also in Louisiana. All the ballot positioned state parties recognize the majority under the leadership of Chairman Amondson.
In the absence of Jim publishing the newsletter, we are not getting much news out on us. We need to start letting people know that Dodge is not the majority but that the real Prohibition National Convention will be held in Indianapolis on September 14 & 15.
