Tsongas wins Special Election

Democrat Niki Tsongas won yesterday’s Special Election in the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts.

Three minor party and independent candidates were on the ballot…

Niki Tsongas (Democrat) – 51.32%
Jim Ogonowski (Republican) – 45.10%
Patrick Murphy (Independent) – 2.05%
Kurt Hayes (Independent) – 1.06%
Kevin Thompson (Constitution) – 0.47%

    Were the Independents much more well known and well liked, well-funded,etc than the Consitution candidate? Or did the CP label hurt him?

    CP label didn’t hurt him. The “Tom Brady sucks” label hurt him.

    I think its possible that the presense of the two independents hurt Kevin’s vote.

    Personally there were some things he could’ve done better, but he did his best.

    Murphy ran a pretty solid campaign.

    Just to let you guys know, Louisiana has elections this weekend. There are 13 people running for governor! Half of them independents, one libertarian, 1 Republican, and about 4 or 5 democrats… The Republican has polled 50%, the next best are an independent and a democrat, both at 9%...ouch..

    Jeremy,

    I just got from Louisiana and voted early. I also had the chance to help a local man some for house of representative seat. He stands a real good chance to win.

    I didn’t get a chance to work on the Kershaw campaign, but I actually got to meet the lady who is running his central Louisiana campaign. Not sure if he is going to beat Landreau. She says that he has lots of support in the rural areas. I don’t know if it is enough to win.

    However, it is becoming pretty evident that Louisiana is going be a very solid Republican state.

    Jindal may in fact win without a runoff. There are still many undecided votes yet to be cast. You have to assume that many will go his way.
