Ron Paul Fundraising Explodes!

The so-called “money bomb” scheduled for the 5th of November has delivered beyond anything that most Paul supporters were expecting. The campaign is currently registering nearly $7.2 million towards their $12 million quarterly goal!

The uptick in fundraising is generating tremendous free press as well…

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, aided by an extraordinary outpouring of Internet support Monday, hauled in more than $3.5 million in 20 hours.

Paul, the Texas congressman with a Libertarian tilt and an out-of-Iraq pitch, entered heady fundraising territory with a surge of Web-based giving tied to the commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day.

Fawkes was a British mercenary who failed in his attempt to kill King James I on Nov. 5, 1605. He also was the model for the protagonist in the movie “V for Vendetta.” Paul backers motivated donors on the Internet with mashed-up clips of the film on the online video site YouTube as well as the Guy Fawkes Day refrain: “Remember, remember the 5th of November.”

Paul’s total deposed Mitt Romney as the single-day fundraising record holder in the Republican presidential field. When it comes to sums amassed in one day, Paul now ranks only behind Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, who raised nearly $6.2 million on June 30, and Barack Obama.

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said the effort began independently about two months ago at the hands of Paul’s backers. He said Paul picked up on the movement, mentioning in it speeches and interviews.

“It’s been kind of building up virally,” Benton said.

The $3.5 million, he said, represented online contributions from more than 22,000 donors.

Paul has been lagging in the polls behind Republican front-runners. But he captured national attention at the end of September when he reported raising $5.2 million in three months, putting him fourth among Republican presidential candidates in fundraising for the quarter.

Paul as of Monday had raised $6.3 million since Oct. 1, more than half his goal of $12 million by the end of the year, according to his Web site.

Paul advocates limited government and low taxes like other Republicans, but he stands alone as the only GOP presidential candidate opposed to the Iraq war. He also has opposed Bush administration security measures that he says encroach on civil liberties.

I made another contribution on November 5th bringing my total to $800 for Ron Paul for President ‘08. I’ll do more. What a day!!

Free, Free, come the 5th of February!

  3. Trent Hill Says:

    Wes,

I made an additional contribution too. 21,000 NEW donors gave today also.

Paul broke online single-day fundraising records, and single-day Republican fundraising records. At final count 3.98m in one day.

The New York Times, ABC News, Washington Post, and CNN have already covered it (only a half-hour after midnight).

  4. Phil Says:

    21,000 NEW donors?

Dear lord… I thought $12 million was always completely unbelievable to accomplish, but if he can build off today he’s in an excellent position to meet his goal.

$12 Million to win. $ donations to freedom. So, when the meter reaches 12 RP/RP wins & we are free? Wow! Isn’t the internet wonderful?

  7. Ryan Brennan (ThirdPartyNews.net) Says:

This is simply amazing! I can’t express how excited I am. I am so glad that my $1-$1.5 million prediction for Nov. 5 was way off!

Tom Anderson, that is a such a wonderful idea to hold such a rally. And thanks for alerting me to the dates of Dec. 15 & 16. I was wondering what kind of things can happen in Nov.-Dec. to bring in millions more.

I donated $33 on Nov. 5 and am going to hand out Ron Paul fliers at the polls tomorrow and am excited about going to the Philadelphia rally & Ron Paul speech Nov. 10 and am trying to get as many people as possible to go with me. Can’t wait to possibly meet Ron Paul & get my picture taken with him! I’m expecting over 2,000 people to be at the rally. Hopefully it will generate some media attention, at least local Philadelphia media.

I have a high quality ‘tape’ (HD1080,720,SD,QVGA, all in QuickTime, unedited, of Ron’s appearance on the Tonight Show. if the campaign can make any use of it, I’ll send a DVD.

  9. Andy Says:

I’m proud to say that I contributed to this effort.

[...] What’s all this fuss about Ron Paul? Seems like he had a happy day for campaign donations. To bad it’s all fiat money. Try trading that lump sum for a chestful of doubloons, you old nutjob. [...]

  11. Trent Hill Says:

It was amazing. The media is reporting anywhere from 2.5-4.2m.

  12. Fred C. Says:

The media is going by the press-releases issued during the day while the event was still going, instead of doing any actual calculations themselves (or going to ronpaulgraphs, like everyone else).

  13. Jason C Says:

This is truly amazing and….flooring at the same time. Ron Paul has certainly stood things on its head. There is still a big part of me that hopes he gets it. I’m not 100% for him but I’m certainly not against him.

You have to assume that he is in very bood position to flood NH and SC with the RP message. However, there just aren’t as many supporting Republicans as there are Ron Paul freedom fighters, and I think that will be the sad ending to this story.

Then again, Ron Paul has proven me wrong at least a half a dozen times.

    Shocked and Awed,

    Jason

  14. Brian Says:

I would say that Dr.Paul’s fundraising ‘surge’ is more successful than the Bush Iraq surge.

    I’m glad I donated my $100.

And what’s this about moneybombs in December? Is there a website for it?

  17. Trent Hill Says:

It isnt active yet, and they’re trying to get the guy who did ThisNovember5th.com on board.

  18. Gene Trosper Says:

Just so long as they leave out any references to anarchy or blowing up buildings. It was a great fundraising effort, but the media is savaging the campaign because of Guy Fawkes and his attempt at blowing up a building. After 9-11 and Oklahoma City, it seems..well…RETARDED to align the campaign with anything that can be interpreted as terrorism.

  19. Fred C. Says:

By the way, the RP campaign is questioning the higher one-day numbers from the Hillary & Romney camps, its not reflected on the FEC reports.

  20. Wes Benedict Says:

    Gene,

I don’t think it was RETARDED. Questioning a record money haul could be retarded. One of the reasons I contributed and support Ron Paul is because he and his supporters aren’t wusses who cower to every false accusation of supporting terrorism and he hasn’t watered down his positions the way a group of RETARDED Libertarians keeps wanting to do.

  21. Chris Says:

... and he hasn’t watered down his positions the way a group of RETARDED Libertarians keeps wanting to do.

Actually, I’ve read a couple from that group of Libertarians claim that the Ron Paul Revolution is proof that they were right.

You know, because bitching about the Fed, calling for the outright elimination of the IRS and Department of Education, and pledging to bring every last troop home from over seas is such a radical message that the “masses” just won’t get it. Good thing Paul has a more “mainstream” message of … well … ummmm …

Next money bomb is scheduled for Nov. 11.
