Chuck Hagel as an Independent Presidential Candidate?
More rumors floating around the tubes:
There is much talk about the prospect that Paul might exit the GOP to mount an independent or Libertarian Party bid for the presidency in 2008. But Hagel’s willingness to express his fierce disdain for Bush and Cheney in the bluntest of terms offers a reminder that an outsider bid by the Nebraska senator—either at the top of an independent or Unity Party ticket, or running alongside New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, with whom Hagel again met this week—remains the more intriguing possibility.

Sen. Hagel has become more critical of the Iraq War lately. On other issues, he is a mixed bag for libertarians. But if Ron Paul does not run an independent/Libertarian campaign in the general election, Hagel would be better than the bipartisan warhawks. But I don’t think he will run.

One can only speculate that even Obama may be under consideration as a Bloomberg running mate after the Mayor requesting and being granted a half hour meeting yesterday.

Why would Obama run as a losing independent VP candidate (thus ending his political career) when running as Hillary’s VP candidate is almost a sure bet?

The fact that enmity could be worse does mean it doesn’t exist. Obama is trying to win, not play second chair – He is Hillary’s enemy because anyone with a soul is Hillary’s enemy. I think his odds are better than most give him credit for, and that by Feb 5th it’ll be Obama vs. Edwards.

To equate Hillary Clinton as the worst possible candidate is silly. There is so little difference between Giuliani and Clinton that the Presidential Election in 2008 will be laughable. People I know in New York are having a hard time deciding who they dislike more and would rather have out of New York. American politics should not be about voting FOR any one. We should cast a ballot for the candidate we hate the most and the winner is whomever gets the least votes.
