Root and Medved to Go Mano y Mano
Speaking of Wayne Allyn Root interviews, I’ve just learned that the Libertarian Party presidential hopeful will be interviewed by Michael Medved on Monday. Considering Medved’s record of open hostility towards the Libertarian Party, combined with Libertarian criticism of Root’s foreign policy position, this interview may indeed prove very interesting.
In various campaign and party roles, I’ve advised some LP candidates to steer clear of Medved. However, I’ve encouraged other candidates to take Medved on. It all depends on the verbal skills and style of the candidate.
From what I’ve observed about Root (who has been a guest on Medved’s program in the past), he may have the verbal skill set necessary to spar with Medved in a difficult setting. If Root performs well in this hostile and aggressive environment, he’s likely to see increased support from LP members who value political skills and vote totals over specific political issues.
Since Medved has previously insinuated that libertarians are antisemitical, I wonder how he will deal with a Jewish Libertarian.
The issue side should prove equally interesting. My observation (and whispers I hear from Root supporters) is that Root’s views on foreign policy are slowly evolving in a direction more palatable to the majority of LP members. He’s clearly not there yet, but I’m curious to see just how far Root is willing to go. This interview will likely provide Root the opportunity to clarify his current views on the Iraq War. It will also be in front of an audience hostile to the position most Libertarians hold about the Iraq War. Will Root try to appeal to Medved’s audience, cater to LP delegates, or be looking at the non-traditional LP votes he might hope to attract post-nomination?

Mano y mano?
There must be something you know about them which has not been made public.

1. Medved is hardly a hostile environment to a prowar person, libertarian or otherwise.
2. Although ideally a candidate would call for a pullout of Iraq, now that Iraq’s a done deal, I’m more concerned with a candidate’s views on Iran.
I’ve heard Root say several months ago that Iraq was the wrong war, Iran is the right war. Which is unacceptable to me, an antiwar voter. I want someone who’s opposed to current and future wars.

I’m looking forward to this Mano en Mano interview, since Medved and Root are both among the founders of the Modern Libertarian Movement, along with me, Vito Vaccaro, Rudy Giuliani, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Joe Lieberman.

I think the headline might be a little Spanish Freudian slip.

When the hell did this mano y mano thing start? It doesn’t mean what people think it means. It means “hand and hand” not “man on man” or “man to man”. Unless you mean something homosexual. Perhaps I should just read it as homosexual everytime and comment as such. Stupid.
