Stephen Colbert becoming Sirius about politics
I’ll just feed you their press release straight up:
SIRIUS Satellite Radio announced that Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert sat down for a rare radio interview with SIRIUS host Pete Dominick. The interview will air on Pete’s Big Mouth on March 13 at 4:00 pm ET, exclusively on SIRIUS’ new Indie Talk channel 110.
Indie Talk serves as an uncensored forum for non-partisan independent thought and opinion. Indie Talk has no agenda: the channel gives an equal voice to individuals from any affiliation or background, targets the blogger generation, and is a platform for listeners across the country to react to breaking news, issues and buzz.
Pete’s Big Mouth airs Monday-Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm ET on Indie Talk, SIRIUS channel 110. On Pete’s Big Mouth, stand-up comedian Pete Dominick challenges listeners to speak for themselves, engage in debate, and have fun at the same time. Dominick can also be heard on SIRIUS’ Raw Dog Comedy Uncensored.
Select quotes from the interview:
Stephen Colbert if he was President and it’s “3:00 am and the [red] phone rings…”
PETE DOMINICK: It’s 3:00 am and the [red] phone rings in Stephen Colbert’s White House. It’s the eighth day of your presidency…because seriously, who starts running the country on day one?
STEPHEN COLBERT: …You’re hung over for the first seven…
PETE DOMINICK: Does President Colbert answer the phone with judgment or experience, and what are you wearing sir?
STEPHEN COLBERT: …I’m wearing a nightshirt because I’m a traditionalist.
Stephen Colbert on SIRIUS’ Indie Talk channel:
PETE DOMINICK: The channel is Indie Talk. The idea is politics…without politics…
STEPHEN COLBERT: …I like it, I love it.
PETE DOMINICK: It’s a new channel; it’s a new idea…
STEPHEN COLBERT: …It’s a new hope is what it is. You are the Barack Obama of radio…
Stephen Colbert on “Stephen Colbert”:
PETE DOMINICK: Does the character Stephen Colbert ever manage to convince the real Stephen Colbert on a political or social issue?
STEPHEN COLBERT: …Not that this isn’t the highest [ranking] interview I’ve ever done, but when Morley Safer was interviewing me for 60 Minutes, he said do you ever feel like you would be in danger of going too far with this? And I said: ‘I think the only chance I have of ever really doing this character well is if at some point I believe my own line of crap’…

Sirius radio is life itself. And that’s not hyperbole. I cannot imagine how I ever lived without it.
Might be interested to know that during all my blogging hours, I’ve got it tuned into The Spectrum – Sirius 19. On weekends it’s Sirius 30 The Coffee House (Acoustic favorites). And at night, none other than All Jimmy Buffett Sirius 31.
Other favs: All Punk Sirius 29, First Wave, and the Heavy Metal Channels.
I’ll even throw on some Sinatra from time to time.
Thanks for the tip. Hadn’t heard of Sirius 110 before. I’ll give it a try.

Sirius sucks. I have had it since December ‘03 and I’m finally canceling my subscription when it is up in May. They made crappy hardware and they offer no support for it—just “buy another radio.” I had a car deck that broke, a home deck that broke, and now my boombox is showing signs of breaking down. My receiver is no longer compatible with the stuff being sold now.
Sirius as a company makes Wayne Root’s business look legit. It is on borrowed time. As soon as Stern’s contract is up, it is out of business, guaranteed. They used to offer life-time subscriptions but they’ve abolished those as well as the three-year subscription. Word is that the two-year subscription is on the way out, too, as soon as Howard’s contract has less than two years on it.
Get with the times, Dondero. Get an iPod.
Sirius and XM are the most hubristic, idiotic companies in the post-tech-boom era. They did the equivalent of laying thousands of miles of railroad track right before the development of free teleportation technology (the Net).
And yeah, I just had a bad experience with tech support two nights ago!

I wouldn’t get Sirius, not even for Howard Stern (and I’ve been
a fan of his for about 15 years). An MP3 player works fine for me.
