paulie, Steve rants about me in the negative sarcastic, then you list some nominees with your criticism. Good opportunity to rant further about me in your usual negative tone & usually wrong about something.

Obviously, though the only way the LP can win this time around is to go with a charismatic, nationally known, universally beloved figure like Robert Milnes. According to his own figures, he’s already polling close to the lead of a 3 way race and that’s before he raises the millions of dollars he’s talked about. His hundreds of thousands of grassroots backers are probably saving their cash for money bombs after he wins the nomination. And that’s not to mention the potential of his blog-comment based campaign strategy as a blueprint for future success. : )
***

Mr. Milnes holds a most unique position in the history of American politics.

3) Taxes
Indicate what federal tax levels (#1-6) you support for the following general categories. Select one number per tax, you can use a number more than once.
Family Income Taxes
Slightly Increase a) Less than $12,000
Maintain Status b) $12,001-$40,000
Maintain Status c) $40,001-$100,000
Maintain Status d) $100,001-$180,000
Maintain Status e) $180,001-$350,000
Slightly Decrease f) $350,001 and above
g) Other or expanded categories

The last I heard there are over 5,000 people running for POTUS, you will have to search them all and I doubt anyone of them OTHER than Mr.Milnes wants to STICK it to the poorest of us more, ease up on the affluent elite, and keep all others under the gun @ current levels.

His TAX solution:
TAX THE POOR MORE !!! A truly winning slogan ! Hey ?!? That has to be the solution to the D/R created $9 trillion deficit. Surely we all can agree he will be swept into the White House on this one platform alone !!!!!!!

If you want to study a truly unique "candidate's" mind...

See Issue Positions (Political Courage Test) @
http://www.votesmart.org/bio.php?can_id=80134

I was also pleased to see he did get his GED, that bodes well for the position of POTUS. We will overlook that he seems to have had a problem finishing his upper education to the conclusion of a diploma...

Surely he needs to TOP the ticket with say a Ruwart, Ph.D. under him...

Barr would certainly be the candidate with the most name recognition but you gotta admit a Robert Milnes/Daniel Imperato ticket would be unstoppable!

YES we MUST !!! I understand a fifty state campaign stategy is now in the works. They plan to campaign in every mental hospital from Bangor to Honolulu. FINANLY a winning ticket ...PGA !!!

I tend to agree with Tom Knapp. Barr could be a dynamite candidate if he started campaigning 1-2 years before the election. This time out, however, it’s too late for him to do it right so he’d be smarter to campaign vigorously for the Libertarian ticket in 2008 and get a running start for 2012.

True.

I'm thinking that with most of the candidates.

Jingozian, Root and Smith - to learn the plumb line ideology more thoroughly, become active in their state and local parties, run for lower level office, and be active in the party in other ways.

Phillies - to continue to improve his speaking style, and to see whether he can learn to be a bit more conciliatory to various large LP constituencies (or alternatively succeed in making them no longer larger LP constituencies)

Kubby - to continue to rebuild his life to the point that if, as it did this year, it becomes necessary to self-finances campaign basics like a professional website, campaign brochures and bumper stickers, delegate mailings, and travel to state conventions, he can do it with no difficulty; to get used to more frequent public speaking again, and to build his video productions equipment and skills further. ETC

Ruwart seems like the only complete package. However, there needs to be a lot more done to convince delegates that she will be able to get serious major media coverage, and to make her better known among affiliate issue coalitions.

I've thought for a while that Barr would be better in 2012 for all the reasons listed above by those with much more experience/credibility than me. The relative success of the Ron Paul movement at putting together the type of coalition the LP would ultimately need to succeed - libertarians, constitutionalists, antiwar leftists, a few Christian conservatives who actually get it, disgruntled Republicans, unaffliated youth - the fragile and timely nature of that coalition, and the window of opportunity on the right with conseratives slow to line up behind McCain, and the lack of a top tier LP nominee to attract these people convinced me to begin supporting a potential Barr run this time around.

Barr has name rec and credentials. He likely has great fundraising chops. He's the kind of candidate who could conduct a reasonably effective 1-2 year campaign to the American public, raise lots of max contributions for both the pre- and post-nomination period, and maybe make a mark.

If he runs this year, it will be a matter of playing a little inside baseball in the LP, and then having only five months to try to put together a general election campaign while simultaneously fundraising from near zero for that campaign. He wouldn't perform nearly as well as he would have had he done it right, and he'd be painting a "perennial candidate -- what, that guy again?" target on his own back versus any intentions he might have for 2012.

At this point, a 2008 presidential candidacy would be a huge waste of Barr's time and potential.
