As a Wayne Root supporter, I gotta admit, if Barr runs, he’s instantly the frontrunner, despite all the media Wayne’s been getting lately. He’s got the ability to unite all Libertarian factions; He’s got rightwing libertarian appeal, but the leftwing Libertarians seem to like and respect him too. (Which concerns me somewhat?)

If it’s Ruwart or someone else like that, the LP will be split right down the middle for ‘08. Net benefit: McCain. Cause the LP’s rightwing along with libertarian Republicans who could be persuaded to support Barr, will bolt back to the GOP.

So does most of the Libertarian Party.

I know three or four people who say they would vote Libertarian if they ran a candidate with presidential credentials. Barr lends credibility.

I absolutely hope Bob Barr will seek the LP nomination for President. If he does, I am very confident he will win the nomination. If he throws his hat into the ring, I expect many Libertarians like me will enthusiastically work to help him secure the nomination.

For the record, I have asked Mary Ruwart to run for President and I have also had some positive things to say about Wayne Allyn Root, who is certainly quite different from Mary Ruwart.

I’ll support whomever the Libertarian Party nominee is, but I think Bob Barr would be the strongest candidate and the best for the Libertarian Party in ‘08. A Barr campaign would be the most likely to reach the largest number of people to promote the concept of freedom.

Just listened to it. Barr came out as very middle of the road. I’m surprised. I expected some fire-breathing Anti-War rant. But he acknoledged twice no less, that sometimes force is necessary to defend the border integrity of the United States.

Towards the end he’s a bit too “McCainian” on the issue of torture, coming out strongly against water-boarding like McCain.

But overall, not nearly the pacifist Anti-War stirdently Ron Paulian non-interventionist as some on the libertarian left are trying to make him out to be.

I’d say, from the libertarian right perspective on Barr, so far, so good.
