Mr. Wilson makes some excellant points.

  2. Honey Porter Says:

Yes, Wilson does have a point.

  3. Catholic Trotskyist Says:

I support the Libertarian and Constitution Parties merging. Not only does it help get them a stronger candidate to steal more Republican votes, but it also brings the Fringe Alliance Strategy closer to happening.

The one point he has proven is that the LP has frigging fake libertarians in it to consider this idea sensible. The Constitution Party is antiliberty and pro theocratic. That they agree on some issues is no reason for merger any more than the fact that libertarians agree with Obama on some things is reason to join the Democrats. This indicates an inability to think in terms of fundamental principles. Ron Paul moved away from libertarianism and his statists tendencies are now being used as justification for even more statist tendencies. I have no doubt that certain groups that have been flirting with the loony Right, like those who run this site, wouldn’t salivate at the choice. Those who advocate such things are traitors to libertariansim.

I see no chance of the LP and the CP merging. The ideological purists in both parties will see to that. Why do you think they are called “minor” parties?

  6. George Donnelly Says:

CP members supporting their party’s platform do NOT accept the non-aggression principle.

You can not join the LP without accepting the non-aggression principle.

  7. Freeman Says:

A fabulous idea, Mister Wilson and well-said. The LP need only chuck the membership oath and drastically simplify its platform, and a merger would be just one bold stride away.
It so happens, of the two, “Constitution” is the better named. Merge and mount a challenge, or become gradually more trite.

  8. Freeman Says:

But of course the CP won’t be doing any merging either.
Only a fresh start, a fresh party, will be able to create a formidable challenge, unless by some miracle one or the other, or both LP n CP, are willing to become inclusive this election cycle. Meantime, infiltrate the ruling parties.

  9. George Donnelly Says:

Wilson wants the Libertarian Party to abandon its principles but he wants the Libertarians and the Constitutional Party to work together on common ends.

What ends could you possibly identify and rigorously pursue if you have no guiding principles? That is the situation we face today, where unscrupulous politicians, lacking in guiding principles, trade favors for terms in office and make laws that are diametrically opposed to the values of our republic.
