Libertarian Party of Indiana Presidential Debate

Here is footage from the Libertarian Parry of Indiana presidential debates held last weekend. Both debates are moderated by Bob Kirkpatrick. The first video includes candidates Mary Ruwart and George Phillies. Wayne Allyn Root, Mike Gravel and Mike Jingozian were represented by surrogate speakers. The portion of the debate dealing with the controversial issue within the LP starts at the 21:15 mark. This issue is also addressed at 54:01 of the first video.

The second video includes candidates Daniel Imperato, Mary Ruwart, George Phillies, Mike Gravel and Mike Jingozian. Wayne Allyn Root was represented by a surrogate speaker. Be sure to watch the entire video, as it is filled with a variety of new (and modified) imperatoisms.

Both videos were recorded by Greg Hertzsch.

Libertarians will always be united in at least one way: opposition to Imperato. :)

  2. Guy Fawkes Says:

At least prostitutes are (usually) adults who engage in willing acts. There is no excuse for this type of ridiculousness.

It is driven underground for the same reason the Austrian pervert kept his incest/pedophilia underground. But I suppose his daughters made bad decisions. They got what they deserved I’m sure.

Although Ruwarts intentions are noble, the logic is flawed and destructive to our common cause. The anarchists are not Libertarians, they are zealots.

I have some photographs to sell the anarchists I took of their children. I’m sure they won’t mind…

  3. BillTX Says:

Sane human beings will always be united in at least one way: opposition to Imperato.

    FIXED.

All the previous comments seem to revolve around the first video, which I didn’t watch, so I won’t comment on it. I did watch the 2nd video, and I got a better understanding of some of the canidates. Gravel supports direct democracy far too much, and seems to be bent on putting down the LP for focusing on fringe issues and not getting anywhere. Waynes stand in didn’t seem to have a clear answer to any of the questions. I was very impressed with Phillies, Jingozian and Ruwart. I was not all that impressed with Imperato, though. All in all, I found it a very informative video.

  7. Sobriquet Says:

I think W.A.R.’s commitment to the LP is evident in his sheer absence from so many LP functions. So, if he wins the presidency, is he going to send the VP to everything, too?

  8. Kelly Parker Says:

Don’t be too hard on WAR Sobriquet. He does have a business to run after all. His level of commitment will be evident if he doesn’t win the nomination.

  9. Mark Fitzgerald Says:

We have to look at who votes. As much as i agree that Gravel is a little too outspoken in putting down “fringe” issues he is right. The question comes down to do we as a party want to grow and actually influence policy? Do we as a party want to have a voice? Jingozian, Phillies, Ruwart, are all long time libertarian’s and can represent the values of the party very well. Gravel has been in the system and probably has valuable insight into the inner working’s of the system. Hopefully we can find some combination that will allow the party to keep it’s message and integrity, while recognizing that some flexibility is needed if we are to grow and become the party of choice for those that are disenfranchised.

“Gravel has been in the system and probably has valuable insight into the inner working’s of the system.”

    So has Bob Barr.

“Hopefully we can find some combination that will allow the party to keep it’s message and integrity, while recognizing that some flexibility is needed if we are to grow and become the party of choice for those that are disenfranchised.”

I agree. One of the experienced politicians(Gravel or Barr) as our Presidential nominee and a long time LP activist as the VP.

I think Milnes could not afford the travel costs, so you might consider a contribution to him in order to enjoy the laughs next times. Wonder whether he will show up in his jeans and T-shirt? Oh dear, we have to contribute to him to afford a nice suit…

  12. Stefan Says:

Bob Kirkpatrick looks like he could do with a barber, or does he represent the anarchist wing of the LP?

Look, people. Take a minute to read the questions in the comments above you before you ask a question that has already been asked.

He was at a similar event in NYC at the same time.

  15. Stefan Says:

Dr. Phillies: Yes, I have seen Bob Barr’s PAC has contributed 3000 USD to sen John Sununu. One does have to point out that Sununu – whose father was governor of the state – has a pretty libertarian voting record. He voted against the military commissions act and other acts that are against civil liberties and filibustered with some Democrats the Patriot Act. The third biggest part, the CP does have a philosophy to support a candidate of the GOP or Demo that vote quite close to their party principles and support such a candidate, and not fight such a candidate
A principled pragmatism in politics can be a wise thing if it is about libertarian principles.

  16. Bill Wood Says:

Wayne Allyn Root has probably appeared at more Libertarian Party events this year than any other Candidate. I don’t have a list but, he as been to Va., NY, PA, Heartland, CA, IL, FL, England…..

  17. Bill Wood Says:

...Ohio, New Hampshire, Wes mentioned Wayne was in Texas last Saturday. It has been stated before that some State Conventions fall on the same day making it more difficult for our Candidates to make it to every one.

  18. Itch Says:

Bill Wood. That’s a manly name. I respect that.

  19. wally parolee Says:

Heh heh. He said wood. Heh heh.

  20. Mike Theodore Says:

Danny Imp: Plans are confidential…He said them, and it wasn’t anything special. If we put a cardboard cutout of him at the convention, I doubt anyone would notice the difference. Except he talks alot.

  21. Bill Wood Says:

Itch and Wally, in my campaign for Congress one of the ideas for campaign slogans; “Get Wood! for Congress” lol

  22. Ross Says:

Supports direct democracy too much? That is the major issue of his campaign. If he does not push it, it won’t get recognized that way. That’s what happened to him in the Democratic debates.

  23. Lidia Seebeck Says:

Whoa, Mary’s a Texian? Did I hear that right?

  24. Steve Rankin Says:

How about “When Others Wouldn’t, Bill Wood!”?

  25. Bill Wood Says:

Great one Steve. We used “Finally a Bill we can Support”

  26. Dallas Says:

Gravel does not want out of the UN and wants talk of NWO conspiracies to be quieted but then goes on about conspiracies in the Democratic Party against him and warns of the military-industrial complex. Do you think he might figure out it is all related?

If Root does not soften his foreign policy I think it will be hard to get Ron Paul fans. George Phillies insulted Paul and called him flat out Republican ignoring his Libertarian views and that Paul wants to change the party form the inside. At least he has been in the House or Senate in the last twenty years, Gravel. In fact, he has been in the house for ten years since Gravel left and has been re-elected more times than you can count on two hands. Maybe, they should lay off the most successful member of the Libertarian Party, and Paul is a lifetime member of the party.
The Party does not have the solution for social security. Way to insult thirty years of platform for a party you just joined Gravel, and Imperato comes of as a elitist douche with his response.
Phillies is a tool of the Federal Reserve! Maybe not, but that is amazing that he would not only not get rid of it but defended that it was not privately owned. I do like competing currency because it creates currency independence from the government which I would think would be a revolutionary idea for most Americans.
Gravel is mistaken when he claims to be a classic liberal. Classic liberals are more right libertarian than a lot of right libertarians. Gravel is a modern, or American, liberal. That is he wants to use the government instead of remove or reduce it. I liked Jingozian when he talked about his stances on the issues. All his website has is a five year plan that has him losing this election. I’m still not sure who is vote worthy though…

  27. Shawn Says:

I was very impressed with Mike Gravel. In particular, he is realistic on the issues that are important to most Americans, and will get our party into office. The National Initiative also seems like a good way to break up the two party duopoly, by focusing on issues instead of (in their case) outdated labels.
