Bob Barr and Mike Gravel: Live! In Person! One Night Only!
The title was lifted to show how a Reason Facebook-promoted event is currently being billed. Here are the details provided:
A debate on the libertarian vote in 2008
Event Host: Reason magazine
Type: Music/Arts – Jam Session
Date: Tuesday, May 20, 2008
Time: 4:30pm – 8:00pm
Location: Reason
Street:1747 Connecticut Ave NW
City/Town: Washington, DC
Description: As the Republicans settled on John McCain to carry their banner into the fall, three things happened. First, former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr, a Libertarian Party member since 2006, announced a bid for the party’s presidential nomination. Then Mike Gravel, the iconoclastic former senator from Alaska, left the Democratic race to fight for the Libertarian nod. Finally, as the GOP’s primaries wrapped up, Rep. Ron Paul notched 1 million votes—just as his book “The Revolution” became a nationwide bestseller.
Paul has rebuffed multiple requests to run as a third party candidate, so what will happen to his supporters, donors, and voters? Why did Gravel and Barr join the Libertarian Party? Why do both of them want to see their former parties defeated at the ballot boxes? Hear them both in a wide-ranging debate at Reason magazine’s D.C. HQ.
Other details and speakers TBA.

Gordon’s obsession with the neocon rag “Reason” and his association with Bob Barr, who is a member of the same LNC that wishes to purge purists, is getting rather creepy.

Reason shows its dedication to journalistic integrity here:
“First, former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr, a Libertarian Party member since 2006, announced a bid for the party’s presidential nomination. Then Mike Gravel, the iconoclastic former senator from Alaska, left the Democratic race to fight for the Libertarian nod.”
1) Bob Barr has NOT announced a bid.
2) Gravel was in before Barr even began speculating.
tReasonistas should be hanged.

While I wouldn’t show particular support for them (until either of them get the LP nod) I could easily support a combined Barr-Gravel ticket, or a Gravel-Barr ticket. Until then I’ll keep supporting Ruwart.

It will be nice to see both men in a debate so we can finally do some comparison. Thanks to Reason for doing this.
May 9th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
G.E. true of course, but note the event is on the 20th and Barr is set to make an announcement on Monday, 12th, so he he announces, he would have announced his bid and it would be valid for the 20th to make such a statement. Personally, I wish Ruwart could also be there.

Q: Paul has rebuffed multiple requests to run as a third party candidate, so what will happen to his supporters, donors, and voters?
A: Entropy.
What a waste.

First, former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr, a Libertarian Party member since 2006, announced a bid for the party’s presidential nomination.
He did?
I could easily support a combined Barr-Gravel ticket,
Gravel has already said no to VP.
note the event is on the 20th
Cool, I get a birthday present

Reason is a joke. I am amazed that any self-respecting libertarians read the crap that Welch, Young, Weigel, Bailey and Gillespie write.
May 9th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
I wonder if Gravel wouldn’t change his mind if he were actually put in a situation where it was VP or nothing. I wonder…
May 9th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
The possibility of a gravel VP was asked on his forums. I don’t know wha thte conclusion of the discussion was, if anything.
May 9th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Stefan – The USSR had an unpredictable past, and the tReasonistas are commies. They say, “FIRST, Barr announced” and “THEN Gravel.” This is not true and nothing is going to ever make it true. It did NOT happen that way.

Barr and Gravel speaking on the 2008 Libertarian vote. Give me a break!
May 9th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
The listing has changed since TPW posted it. They’ve changed the order of events.
May 9th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Yeah, I was the one that asked that on Gravel’s forums…

Hmmn. So now being Anti-War is NeoCon. Disinter describes fiercely Anti-War Magazine Reason as a “NeoCon” publication above.
I knew it was just a matter of time where the term NeoCon would be spun so much that eventually it would include Anti-War publications and activists as well as everyone else.
“NeoCon” is now officially just a perjorative in politics for anyone from any side of the political spectrum who disagrees with someone else.

Dumbero – the new editor of tReason is a neocon. No question about it.

Rumor is that clients at Barr’s law firm are threatening Barr with loss of bizness. They are die hard OIL PARTY fans MacWARFOREVERcain fans, warmongers…..that have threatened Barr with loss immediate cancellation of all contracts.
Barr….wilting under financial pressure?

Hmmm, I offered to bet anyone a U.S.Grant three months ago that Barr wouldn’t be the LP nominee. I had no takers ! Raising under 60 grand when you start with a 250 meter can’t be very encouraging. Faced with such pressure (if true) means he would have to place the PARTY of PRINCIPLE above personal wealth. Will it happen ? LOL, not likely…
A balanced ticket is desirable, swallow your pride. The LP can survive almost anyone as a VP candidate…
May 11th, 2008 at 8:58 am
I think a Barr-Gravel tickey is the best thing that could happen to the libertarian party. It would have a lot of people asking what they could possibly have in common and press will amplify the message of the LP.

Prowar is prowar. Neocon is the name for republican-reformed democrats. Bush is a neocon. Prowar, proentitlement, anti-taxes

Holy crap. Disinter is right. Matt Welch is a neocon. http://www.amconmag.com/blog/2008/04/02/matt-welch-neocon-mouthpiece/
