One of the guys I know, a speaker for LEAP and a generally cool guy was trying to convince me that Root is a good choice by explaining to me that Root came to him and asked him to explain why drugs should be legal and he really wanted to know the libertarian rationale for it. My friends point was that Root is really trying to understand and embrace the Libertarian reasoning for their positions. It didn't sell Root to me, as I see the Libertarian Presidential candidate as the voice of the LP for at least through November, do I really want a guy who has only been a Libertarian for a little over a year and needs to study the Libertarian positons on various topics before getting a position out? What if confronted with an issue he is not familiar with? Can he be counted on to respond with a Libertarian answer? Also Ron Paul, Goldwater, Reagan all had political experience when they run for office, Root has zero experience. Root has also criticized Paul in a recent radio interview. Reagan had the rhetoric, but not the determination and vision and power to cut government, he expanded it! Paul voted no on Reagan's first budget as president! He would really put his money where his mouth is. Also, Paul is a kind, smart and intelligent man with real service to people, while Root is more an arrogant and loud talker.
