Independent Green Ron Fisher makes ballot in northern Virginia’s 8th congressional district.

Independent Green Ron Fisher (73) is a naval academy graduate. He was a classmate and remains a close friend of the U.S. Senator from Arizona. Ron Fisher is an engineer, and graduated first in his submarine class. Captain Fisher served over 30 years in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Fisher calls for immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. He advocates cutting wasteful U.S. Defense spending, installing an auditable accounting system at the Pentagon, and stopping no bid uncontested contracts. Captain Fisher calls for building an innovative, modern, national high speed rail system to cut dependence on foreign oil in half.

Ron Fisher submitted over 2,400 petition signatures (1,000 valid are required). The retired Navy flag officer spent last week working on Capitol Hill at the office of Congressman Dennis Kucinich on the resolution to impeach President George W. Bush.

Ron has made attempts to bring his old friend McCain around to reality on the war – all unsuccessful.

He is also disturbed about the way his incumbent opponent weasels his way into wasting our tax dollars while a member of the appropriations committee. The latest example is the new $164 Billion supplemental request by the administration. The incumbent wrote the legislation, then later voted against it. Reading the legislation, as Ron has done (something the congress members likely have not) he points out that most of the money has been inserted as earmarks, much more added as military weapons systems that should be included in the regular Defense budget and not inserted into a supplemental.

Based on all this, it makes it more disingenuous when McCain & co. claim those opposing it are against the troops.

Ron is an engineer – an individual that we desperately need to rein in the chaos that they call business as usual in congress. Anyone who thinks that the incumbent is the right person for the job just because he is a Democrat is either ill-informed or simply brain-washed by the big party mentality.
