Libertarian joins cause with American Indian activist

American Indian activist Russell Means was in Washington, D.C. recently, calling on embassies to seek diplomatic recognition for his Republic of Lakotah, which claims to have “seceded” from the United States. The Washington Post Magazine gave his visit this in-depth treatment.

The article notes that Means is aided by a Libertarian Party activist:

It would be a four-day mission, and Means was traveling with an attache, Lakotah’s volunteer attorney general, Jerry Collette. A Libertarian activist and a paralegal who recently emigrated to Lakotah from his longtime home in North Carolina, Collette is most renowned for the intricate, loopholing legal work he did last winter to enable the supporters of presidential candidate Ron Paul to fly a campaign blimp up and down the East Coast…. On this road trip, as Means luxuriated on the hotel’s single queen bed, Collette was sleeping on the floor. “I’m a guerrilla,” he explained, “and if you’re a guerrilla, you just don’t grumble about little discomforts.”

Russell Means sought the Libertarian Party’s nomination for President in 1988, but lost narrowly to Ron Paul. The Post article includes extensive coverage of his visit to Libertarian Party headquarters on this trip to Washington.

Russell Means is a clown, a man desperate to be a boss somehow, anywhere, someway. He and his crew of clowns holds no elective office in lakota tribal politics, they have no standing to represent anyone on that reservation. His newest game is a strange scheme to say the least, given the facts that the official Lakota Government does not support in any way his latest move. What do you call it when the craziest person in the room sets the agenda? Means is highly disgraced and discredited, for many years, among American Indian people. It seems he has an audience with the modern media, but this is not the same thing as being an actual representative of people.

And just by coincidence, the Tribal governments of Native Peoples are little more than puppet regimes. They can’t disrupt their funding from Washington by getting too uppity.

Kind of like saying “not a single AFSCME representative openly supports the Libertarian Party”, therefore the LP is highly disgraced and discredited“.

Just out of curiousity, how many puppet “Tribal Government” regimes are under investigation for illegal campaign contributions to the two parties?

While I fullys support the ideal of Native American independence I can’t support Russel Means. He is nothing but a Native, wife beating, redneck who has been up in arms about seceding ever since he lost his domestic violence court case in the Navajo Nation.

There are many corrupt tribal governments and I am the first to say they should be reformed; Means is, however, not the way to go about this.

Mr. Means was talking Native seccession back during his ‘87 POTUS campaign.

Mr. Means might not be the perfect vehicle for the seccessionist movement, but he is all we have. Mr. Barr might not be the perfect vehicle for the Libertarian movement, but he is all we have.

I heard Russell interviewed on Jack Blood’s radio show last week. My comment is Russell was dead on target talking libertarian on over 90% of all the issues. He said he wanted to get his people OFF welfare and wouldn’t have it in the new country. A true native american quaility of self- reliance ISN’T liberal IMO! In fact FORCED redistribution of the wealth has NO place in a FREE society and should END yesterday!

Everyone needs to get off the TAXPAYERS tit! You are pulling us down, GET A JOB in the private sector you BUMS

  7. Amused Says:

End, you’re an idiot who doesn’t know history. Self reliance is na empty headed idea that’s pure bunk. Most welfare goes to the wealthy, the big corporations. And most white Americans went west in the old days for govt handouts, free land that wasn’t even the govt’s to give away.
