Paul supporters should join LP, says libertarian

David K. Williams, Jr., writing in Nolan Chart, says Republican supporters of Ron Paul should join the Libertarian Party:

If all of Dr. Paul’s supporters joined the LP, the LP would be formidable. It would wield power. It could change things. And success breeds success.

Williams adds:

I see Dr. Paul and many of his followers as akin to those suffering from “battered wives syndrome.” They love the Republican Party they knew years ago, even though it has abandoned them, mocked them, cheated on them, treated them like dirt and belittled them. They know if they love their abuser enough, he will straighten up and it will be like old times.

It won’t be.

Like Bobb Barr says, he did not leave the Republican Party. The Republican Party left him.

If any of you get tired of the abuse, you are welcome in the LP. I hope to see you all at an upcoming meeting.

There is a Republicans for Barr organization they can join.

There are good arguments for supporting both the GOP and LP in this election cycle. After all, America’s Number One libertarian elected official, Tom McClintock of California, is on the ballot as a Republican for US Congress near Sacramento.

We MUST help to elect McClintock to Congress. Next to Barr’s election, there is no other greater priority for ALL libertarians this year.

(BTW, there are other libertarians running under the GOP banner this year, as well, like in New Hampshire where they are running for State House as Fusion candidates.)

I didn’t leave the Libertarian Party. The Libertarian Party left me.

Didn’t the Browne or Badnarik campaign do a “Battered Republican Syndrome” commercial?

  4. Tennessee Mike Says:

The Republican party left me as well. I am one former Republican who would not be voting for McCain in any event.

If one has Libertarian beliefs, that is, feeling the Federal government should stay out of both the boardroom and the bedroom, what other alternative is there besides Barr?

The Greens are an ultra-liberal party who wants redistribution of wealth i.e Robin Hood, and government intervention into commerce i.e. the environment, and the Constitution Party wants to legislate morality.

I predict about three quarters of the so-called “RON PAULERS” will join the BALDWIN 2008 CAMPAIGN and the Constitution party. Good!
Bob Barr has too many skeletons in his closet…..former CIA….etc.
Plus, Ron Paul will NOT endorse him. -Larry Breazeale, Msgt.(ret.) USAF,

Browne. Battered voter not battered Republican.

Chuck Baldwin is a Huckabee clone, not too much on civil liberties.

I don’t think Paul’s people will go that far right.

  8. Michael Seebeck Says:

Earth to Dondero, come in, Dondero: McClintock is almost a shoo-in. Old news. He’s not “America’s Number One libertarian elected official” either. But he is not far off, and definitely up there in the fiscal sense. That honor can be tossed up amongst many people, including Douglas Bruce, Sherriff Bill Masters, Judge Jim Gray, and probably some people back east I don’t know personally who fit the bill just fine.

  9. Stefan Says:

TN Mike: nope Baldwin is not a Huckabee clone, he does not favor constitutional amendments nor does he advocate a smoking ban like Huckabee etc. He does not have the same balanced emphasis than Ron Paul though, he would appeal to some more “rightwing” for which immigration is a big issue. He is more limited in the issues he is addressing than Paul, but one can also understand he has much less access to media, and then you take three main points (illegal-immigration, pro-life etc.) and focus on that and the issues that are his strength.

  10. Stefan Says:

djl: shame, which party will you join? splinter BTP? do not worry, you can support your local LP candidate, vote Barr in November and see what happens after November.

They don’t make transmitters THAT powerful, and if they did, the FCC would outlaw them.

Or some kindly Texas Congressman and country doctor from Lake Jackson, perhaps?

  12. djl Says:

Stefan, I don’t plan to join a party. I’ve given up on that.

I don’t have the foggiest idea what I’m going to do in November. If my choices in Ohio are Barr, Baldwin, McCain, and Obama, I’m leaning towards casting a blank ballot. I’ll vote for my local LP candidates, but the national party has completely lost me at this point. They can get me back, but I’m a free agent at this point.
