Will Gun Owners of America endorse Barr or Baldwin?
Bob Barr gets an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association and is an NRA board member, while McCain receives a C rating. But few expect the NRA to buck the Republican Party in any way.
Gun Owners of America is another story. GOA makes the NRA look like the Sarah Brady bunch. And on the Ron Paul Blog, Patrick Semmens speculates on whether the GOA would be more likely to endorse Bob Barr or Chuck Baldwin:
Interestingly, an article about McCain (who was most recently rated a F- by GOA) titled “John McCain is a Liberal Gun Grabber” is repreinted on GOA’s website. The article is written by Chuck Baldwin.
Semmens also wonders what effect Sarah Palin as McCain’s running mate might have on the pro-gun vote:
Some are speculating that Palin was picked (at least in part) to stop or forestall an NRA endorsement of Barr over McCain. I for one hope that the NRA is not appeased so easily… after all, the VP has little impact on policy, and a political neophyte like Palin (personally I consider that an asset, not a put down) would likely have even less say than usual given McCain’s stubborn reputation.

It’s hard to say who they will choose, but they were one of Ron Paul’s biggest supporters. If I had to choose, I’d probably say Baldwin (even though I am a Barr supporter. But, you never know

Perhaps they will hold Barr’s membership on the Board of the NRA against him and go with Baldwin. On the other hand, they might look at the ballot access/potential electoral vote differential and go with Barr. Or… thay could do a coin toss.

Wonder if Barr could join them also – like with the NRA - or would this not be allowed? GOA endorsed Ron Paul.

I don’t think they will endorse Barr unless they find out the truth about the abortion check.

If the GOA were to break with the Republicans they would probably endorse Barr simply because both Baldwin and Barr are great on the gun issue and Barr has greater potential. However I think the point is moot because I doubt they would break with the Republicans. More then likely they will choose to sit this election out. But I could be wrong.

Larry Pratt is very pro-life, so I suspect GOA will endorse Baldwin. Very unfortunately, however, Pratt supports the “war on terror.” This baffles me. Pratt’s instincts are usually very good. Hopefully he will come around. There is no room on the “far right” for interventionists.

GOA will endorse and support the election of Sarah Palin for Vice President of the US.
She was selected for just this purpose. You marginalized minions of political reality can blog till America barfs, but McCain painted you into a corner…and you’re all at a loss as to how to get out of it.
