Bob Barr blasts Fannie/Freddie bailout
Perhaps an issue has fallen into the lap of Bob Barr that will give his little-noticed presidential campaign some traction—especially among libertarian-minded Ron Paul backers who have not exactly flocked to Barr’s banner.
So begins the Los Angeles Times politics blog Top of the Ticket. It then quotes from the Barr campaign’s media release on the bailout:
Congress set up the taxpayers for big losses when it established these quasi-government agencies to subsidize the housing industry, and then earlier this year voted to approve direct federal support for them. Policymakers should learn from the latest financial disaster and say never again. ......First, government subsidizes an industry. Then, after the industry crashes, government bails it out! The one factor that never changes is: the taxpayers lose. ...
...It is time to say no more. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac need to be privatized and sold off. And Congress must stop treating the federal government like a national soup kitchen for businesses in trouble.

Good ole Liberty Bob talking about bailouts that aren’t investor bailouts. Beside censoring blogs and refusing to answer questions bearing on his alleged “pro-life” views, does Bob do anything else well? Not from appearances. Gee, Bob, are mortgage loans supposed to come to end?

Amen, Brother Barr.

Interesting… Didn’t Barr suposivley support the bailouts when they were first proposed?

To everyone who claims to be a libertarian and supports Bob Barr: Bob Barr voted for the Patriot Act and did not even read the legislation! Is he repentant from this or has he apologized for it? Many libertarians criticize Chuck Baldwin, but I think that he deserves a fair shake as he was one of the first people to denounce the Patriot Act! Of course, he is not a Washington insider like Barr was and did not know about it until after it was passed! In these United States we claim to support freedom of speech, but if Chuck says anything about God….many so-called “libertarians” fly off the handle. That last time I checked almost all of founding fathers talked about God, even Thomas Jefferson and believed in freedom of speech. I support everyone’s freedom of speech as a right from God….to not believe in God and proclaim it or to proclaim Him loudly. Know one should be forced or muzzled because of unpopular speech!

I’m going to steal it for my race.

Barr says he is one of only a handful of congresscritters who DID read the USA PATRIOT act before voting on it, which is why he says he pushed for inclusion of sunset provisions in the bill.

I’m glad to see these libertarians tearing each other apart. By reading these threads you would think Barr is leading in the Polls not Obama or McCain. I guess that’s why third parties never succeed. Keep it up ! I’ll be watching

Dwayne,

Barr was not supportive of a bailout, but did incidate that he would support giving loans to the organizations IF that would prompt a restructuring of the organizations to be truly private entities.
Instead, we went the complete opposite direction and have made them truly public entities.

Many of you will probably be unhappy at my return, but I had to wait until my new computer got delivered, since the agents of the fascist/stalinist criminal Ralph Nader ruined my computer with spywhere. I hope a lot of you were thinking about me when Obama chose the Holy Catholic Revolutionary General Joe Biden as his running mate. Biden is a Catholic Trotskyist, and will sponsor Obama and Jeremiah Wright into Catholicism next year. Then they will ban abortion, and by the end of their first term they will utterly crush the sovereign infrastructure of the world and initiate the Christian/Muslim Libertarian Socialist world government. The governmen’ts bailout of the mortgaage companies is a great indication of things to come, as it signifies the impending fall of capitalism. This time the socialists will not make the mistake of abandoning the church.
Praise Jesus, Praise Trotsky, Praise Obama.
Praise Trotsky and Lenin as their souls finally transit from purgatory to Heaven. Amen.

It’s amazing how humans can be the smartest lifeform on this planet, and also the dumbest at the same time.
