It's just not serious to claim that millions of people would lose their lives if Libertarian policies were implemented. For a Libertarian safety net, see http://knowinghumans.net/2008/04/geolibertarianism-squares-two-circles.html.

Brian, Obama will not be implementing policies similar to Nader's on health care and energy, not by a long shot!

As a newcomer to this site, I have been puzzled by the lovefest towards Bob Barr. I hate the Libertarian party because I know if it's policies were implemented millions of people would lose their lives (it's a "survival of the fittest" ideology that doesn't take so many facts into account that people do not deserve their "lot" in life. People simply are not that generous which is why the state has to intervene and provide a safety net). I do think their is a disproportionate amount of coverage here of the LP and Bob Barr.

http://constitutionpledge.com/ says it has $3635 so far, and that "starting Sept 17, Constitution Day, you have ten days to pledge support for Ralph Nader, the Presidential candidate who will always defend the United States Constitution".

Mike Nelson, I'm glad to see you recognize that merely to quote Nader's words is to criticize him. (You and he are similar in that respect.) Am I afraid of Nader's ideas? Yes. President Obama is very likely to implement Naderite policies on health care and energy, for example.

I'm voting Nader and I'm not upset with the amount of coverage around here. I think that having third parties legitimized should be important to everybody who has strong beliefs. Major candidates won't take sides on issues if they don't have to. They don't want to alienate anybody. Third parties are principled, and will take sides on issues they believe in and not for the sake of public opinion. The diverse yet similar interests of the American people might be much better served by a six party system.

And to clarify the Nader "Liberty" site seems to have had few donations, while votenader.org has had many. They appear to have separate accounting.

disinter Says:
Is poor Brain Holz afraid of Nader?

I don't see why. The only coverage Ralph gets around here is -- at best -- a curt, perfunctory reposting of campaign press releases.

I'm sure that's only because Ralph is running independent of a particular party and this IS "Third PARTY Watch", not "Independent Candidate Watch", after all. Plus there's all that voluminous coverage of McKinney and Baldwin to compete with, too.

Although TPW was founded “to provide a centralized news source and online community focused entirely on minor party politics" (per the About This Site link) its current publisher, Richard Viguerie, seems to have a jones on about all things L.P./B.B. at the moment, despite his impeccable Republican credentials.

I guess they could just change the name to “Bob Barr v2.0 Watch”, although that's not nearly as chic or trendy. Or interesting.

"Nader’s pledge total is $3600 going into the ten-day stated period for his fundraising drive." What? They have about $70,000 as I'm writing this. I know that they had over $63,000 this afternoon. Did you write this post on September 10?

From the above it is obvious Nader, the socialist, has no idea what the Constitution says and means, or that he knows but is counting on the American people and voters not knowing what it says and means. Nader's comments and display of the Constitution as a lapel accessory are an outrage that should sicken all true Americans!
