Nothing can more clearly illustrate that there is no difference between the two major parties on the most important of issues. My phone has been ringing off the hook in the last week and I am only a county coordinator in the Barr campaign. He and Nader are going to leave their marks on this election. It's good to know that Bob's campaign is actually on the upswing. There are a lot of detractors that are slamming him, but I definitely think he's going have a key role in this election. As I've said before, I don't really believe in spoilers, but I do think he is going to give the Libertarian party some credibility (due in part to his being on the "right" side of the bailout issue) that has heretofore eluded it. The rotary event had about 150 or so in attendance. We (myself, Bill Woolsey and a volunteer who's name escapes me at the moment) had to move ahead to the next location at the College of Charleston to get things setup, so I missed hearing what he said, bt if it was even close to how well he did at the Citadel and later at CofC then he knocked it out of the park. We actually had to turn several people away from the evening fundraiser -- we'd filled the room at the restaurant. The support was fantastic. I thought that the afternoon presentation at the College was the best event of the day. He spent his time explaining to the students what libertarianism is and discussing the differences between what we have today and what the framers of the Constitution intended. I wish we'd had a camera there to tape it. His interaction with the students was fantastic. Many of the students remained after the event was over and talked to Bob up on the stage. The Libertarian message is getting through. All the local television stations sent news crews out to cover his trip. Four years ago they'd have ignored us.
