LNC Secretary Intervenes in Wisconsin State Officer Removal

We have seen a report from Jami Van Alstine, asserting :

Is there any conflict for the Secretary of the LNC to become a member of a state affiliate for the express purpose of attempting to game bylaws requirements to prevent the suspension and removal of the state affiliate’s MC chair?

Wisconsin EXCOM put forth a motion to censure, then another to move to suspend the chair for violating the parties bylaws by unilaterally signing them onto the Region 1 agreement. These were passed. It then went to the party’s SCBL committee as required by the bylaws, after they reviewed, they voted to suspend unanimously. The next step is for a special convention, which requires a petition signed by 50% of the membership. CAH and 33 other out of state members immediately joined in an attempt to STOP such a convention by raising the threshold of the signature requirements. That is the current status.

While that may be true, that’s not really responsive to the OP.

A simple fix would be to change the petition requirement to be a percentage of voting members, and requiring domicile in the state in order to be a voting member. Another fix would be to not allow out-of-state members.

Is your membership in the Libertarian Party of Michigan current?

“CAH and 33 other out of state members immediately joined in an attempt to STOP such a convention by raising the threshold of the signature requirements.”

Grammar is a bit of a problem here.

Did they “immediately join”the Wisconson LP? And presumably THAT is the purpose of their joining, to boost the signature requirements?

The very concept of members from outside the affiliate’s region is absurd. I’m glad we have a residency requirement in the LP of Maine. (A bylaw I authored over a decade ago).

We’ve seen out-of-state members swarm and outvote the native membership in PA already. Outside of collecting dues from them, there’s no advantage to having members who have no skin in the game ruling over those who do the work.

Not surprising that once again, bad bylaws are being exploited for the purpose of disenfranchising membership.

Wisconsin, say the word and we will all join and sign the petition. This is an easy game to win.
