Harlos Appeals LPCO’s RFK Candidacy

Last updated on July 9, 2024

Libertarian Party of Colorado member Caryn Ann Harlos, who also serves as the Libertarian Party National Secretary, has filed an appeal with the LPCO Judicial Committee.  She objects to the LPCO Executive Committee proposal to run Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as the LPCO candidate for President in Colorado.  The text of her appeal may by found at https://drive.google.com/file/d/12e12INH5pIABl2UH-CKxa8gY15hOMSe0.

Harlos also revoked her associations with the Libertarian Party Mises Caucus.

We are presented with a rumor that an unnamed person filed the Oliver-Ter Maat  ticket with the Colorado Secretary of State.

It says Kennedy is nominally a member of the LP, but is a registered Democrat and also a member of other parties and that her interpretation of the bylaws prohibits that type of fusion. It also says that, if LP CO bylaws were applied to presidential candidates (although they are not applicable for that office) under LP CO bylaws, candidates must be members of the party from January 1st of the convention year, which Kennedy was not. It says Shanahan is not a member at all.

But, all of that is aside from the main crux of the argument, which, at the risk of being overly brief, is that the LPCO, being an affiliate of national, is subject to national’s bylaws, and national’s bylaws only designate one way to nominate a Presidential candidate – at the national convention.

I looked at this and I can’t believe the LNC Secretary would claim that RFK Jr isn’t a member of the LP when she personally accepted his membership in order for him to be considered for the presidential nomination. How is this not wrong?

She claimed he wasn’t a member of LPCO, not the LP.

See page 8, and pages 17-18.
