From statements by Mr. Redpath and Ms. Yeniscavitch:
For March, LNC revenues were just short of $70,000, including $45,500 of general income, and $24,000 from the Kennedy Victory Fund. Expenses for March were just under $50,000. By comparison, general income for February came to $52,538; the corresponding operating expenses were $81,110.
Unrestricted cash in LNC accounts now totals $204,000. $25,000 of escrow money for Michigan litigation has been recovered. Accounts payable and credit card debts total $58,000. The credit card debt became so large because the Treasurer and the former Chair agreed to make minimum payments on the credit card debt. There are two credit cards, charging 14% and 16%, respectively, of monthly interest. There is perhaps $40,000 owed to ZOHO, but that number is being checked.
The Kennedy Victory Fund is in closeout mode. The Fund will cover the LNC’s accounting expenses. The LNC will receive $11-14K this coming week, and that will be it. In total, the LNC will have received about $373,000 from the fund.
Some Kennedy moneys had to go back and forth to some states until the state groups became FEC filers, but this is now being cleared up.
It was observed that in the 2025 budget there had been a planned off-ramp of Kennedy fundraising, but the ramp is much shorter and steeper than had been expected. Party finances are now challenging. The National Chair is making membership recruitment and fundraising the LNC’s primary objective for the foreseeable future.
Shouldn’t it be LNC and not LNV in the title of this article?
Fixed. Thanks.
The libertarian party should just focus on local races where they can win. You all are fools for concerning yourself too highly with national races, especially the presidency. This is my opinion and will continue to be…
Tell us you don’t understand the details of ballot access without telling us you don’t understand the details of ballot access.
Running local races is the job of the state parties. That has always been their job. Some state parties also contain organized county parties where state law allows. Their job, obviously, is local races. And local races do include someone running for a state wide office, as that is local to the state.
In some states, you have to petition for ballot access. In others, you have to get a certain percentage of a race. In New York, I believe that is still a certain percentage of the vote for governor. In other states, you have to get a certain percentage of the presidential vote.
In a few lucky states, all you have to do is get somebody on the ballot statewide and you keep your ballot access.
Unfortunately, most people don’t understand what the national partty is for. It cannot legally get involved in local races. Only federal races. That means House of Representatives, Senate,or presidential.
That is why their focus on ballot access is so important.
Most people only pay attention to presidential politics, so the presidential election is inevitably the main driver of party growth. That is true for every party which engages in presidential politics, regardless of size. Even if they have no chance of winning that election, it helps with down ballot races and fundraising.
It’s true that asking for contributions is an important part of getting them.
Other important components include earning them by demonstrating a track record of achieving results that impress potential donors and avoiding a proven history of wasting contributors money and egregiously embarrassing them.
How have the libertarians and their national committee done on those scores in recent years?
