Editorial: Donald Trump, Socialist!

Or perhaps Communist.

Trump has solved the socialist problem…How do the workers and peasants get control of the means of production?  He has solved the problem The American Way.  He is bombing the problem with money.  He’s buying the means of production, leading to a “National Wealth Fund” and hence a guaranteed minimum income to keep the workers and peasants happy.

Historical note: Why were the Bolsheviks the Bolsheviks?  That was a Russian Communist faction name, from “bolshoi” for “large”.  Why that name?  Because the Bolsheviks were the minority faction, so Lenin chose the name that lied about their size.

Thus far in his 2nd term Trump has had the government take a stake in Intel in exchange for handing out the already approved CHIPS Act money. He, or people in his administration, have said they may do the same to every other semiconductor company. And Trump demanded a golden share in US Steel in exchange for approving its purchase by Nippon Steel.

The execution is new, but the idea for Trump is not. Between 2018 and 2020 Trump or people in his administration suggested taking a direct government stake in Nokia and Ericsson or, alternatively, having the government directly build out a 5G network in the US. And in 2020 he suggested the government take a stake in the entire hotel, airline, and cruise ship industries.

So, yeah. Direct government ownership of the means of production. That is what Michael Heise, Michael Rectenwald and Clint Russell, Joshua Smith, Tom Woods, Dave Smith, and Hannah Goodman admitted voting for and the NH LP endorsed it while Angela McArdle endorsed it in “red states”.

And Commerce Secretary Howard Lunatic is now talking about government taking a stake in all of the defense industry companies. Lockheed Martin was specifically mentioned.

The socialists in the comments sections under the articles are either crying that what Trump is doing is actually fascism, because he is right wing, or cheering because they think it sets a precedent and will make it easier for some leftist to do the same in the future.

    On a side note….
Trump just signed an EO banning flag burning.
    lol.
Trump has no understanding of the 1st amendment, freedom or liberty.
He’s an authoritarian, and yet, was endorsed by LPNH.

Is he actually proposing to make law by executive decree? How does he justify that?

      • Joseph Joseph August 26, 2025

I’m not sure Trump tried to justify it or thinks he has to justify it.
        He doesn’t understand the Constitution.
        He’s a moron.

This EO obviously will be overturned by the courts.

With our current supreme court, nothing will OBVIOUSLY be overturned. Hopefully it will end up being overturned.

Having read the EO, I can say that it acknowledged the court’s free speech decision but ordered prosecutors to aggressively pursue any incidental or related charges whenever flag burning was involved. So, the theory goes, he’s not making new law so much as using selective enforcement to find other reasons why flag burners are criminals. Targeted weaponization of prosecution and state power to have a chilling effect on free speech, but not a law.

USSR ‘show me the man and I’ll tell you the crime’ stuff.

          Your’e correct.

I should have stated the EO targets flag burning, not explicitly bans it, but that’s Trump’s intention.

Trump is attempting to target people who burn the flag with the selective enforcement of ancillary crimes, such as disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace or open fires.
The EO is obviously about “banning” flag burning.

This is how authoritarians attempt to skirt the 1st Amendment.
Next Trump will be targeting all protestors who say mean things about him with ancillary crimes, such as distributing the peace or inciting.

This is a dangerous slippery slope.
