LPUS Membership Increases for May New Executive Director Steve Dasbach reports that the new LNC Leadership plans to bring out the membership report for each month by the fifth of the next month. This is a major step forward from the past several LNCs, in which membership reports tended to appear toward the end of the next month. The count…

Last week I sat through most of the February 1 LNC meeting, covering it for Third Party Watch. Our national party is in serious trouble. Financial? The LNC has a substantial structural deficit, with expenditures considerably larger than income. Acording to the FEC filings, December 2025’s revenue decreased to $58,931. There was also $1900 in bank interest. December Expenses totaled…
LPUS Membership Continues Decline The count of Sustaining Members in the Libertarian national party fell from 9296 at the end of November 2025 to 9090 at the end of December, a decline of 206 people. The count of Life members, who are also counted as sustaining members, remained constant at 3308. The total count of members rose from 237,651 to…
Hannah Kennedy reports that from the end of October to the end of November LPUS sustaining membership fell from 9348 to 9296, of whom 3308 were life members. During the same period the LP gained a net of 47 members, reflecting by an increase in the number of inactive members.
The recent financial report from Bill Redpath include a graph of membership numbers. One graph is defective. It show a lower limit of 10,000 members, but the actual number of members is well below that, off the bottom of that graph. The other graph appears to show the “current” membership, as of the end of May. Printing the graph, and measuring…
I pause to present two images from my book Libertarian Renaissance. They have been used elsewhere. The first is a plot of membership in various years around 2000. You will notice that there is a peak near the year 2000. That’s when the LNC voted to adopt Project Archimedes. Membership never climbed a great deal. Soon thereafter, membership began to…
The count of dues-paying members of the Libertarian Party fell from 10,177 at the end of February to 9,954 at the end of March, a decrease of 223 members or 2.2%. The report claims that the decrease was only by 1.64%. We do not offer to explain the discrepancy. Looking back a half-year, the decrease was from 11,461 at the…
With a tip of the hat to Hannah Kennedy, who reports that a series of anomalies in the membership records have been fixed. Membership is down nearly 200 in a month, and down nearly 1900 in six months. Feb-2025 10,177 Jan-2025 10,367 Dec-2024 10,569 Nov-2024 11,731 Oct-2024 11,679 Sep-2024 11,461 Aug-2024 12,061
The January National Party Membership report is out. There is a technical issue with the count of life members, so data on that is tagged as needing work. Sustaining (i.e., dues-paying [CORRECTION: and life]) national members: End of July 2024 — 11892 End of December 2024 — 10569 End of January 2025 — 10367 That’s a drop of 200 in…
LP Executive Direct Hannah Kennedy reports through the LNC Public List that data cleanup is still under way. She urges reading the financial reports for a more accurate impression of how LP National Membership is doing. Good news!: When cleanup is done, we will have accurate membership numbers starting from when we began using CiviCRM. However, we do have indicative…
