Harlos Endorses Malagon

Last updated on September 12, 2023

In a recent statement to the LNC, LNC Secretary Caryn Ann Harlos has endorsed Adrian Malagon for new At-Large member.  Her rationale was that the convention delegates in 2022 did not want a factionally diverse board, they wanted a board that supported their positions, and Adrian Malagon is the candidate who represents that policy choice.

I was going to save this for the voting but I like it better here.

I adore Bill.  I have served on several LNCs with him.  He has always been wonderful.
I am going to support Adrian, and I want to explain why, and I ask that everyone take this into consideration.  Nothing I say should be construed as a negative against Bill, for whom I have the utmost respect.
Whenever we are filling seats elected by the delegates at convention, I try to honor their directives.  I know the argument that mines the subjunctive of “well they may not feel that way now” etc.  We know what we know.  What we know is that the convention itself was not for a “factionally” diverse board.  That was their choice.  They had a definite vision and directive, and I believe in upholding that.  It was a very unusual convention, but I am not going to dilute their clear directives through attrition.  I have a long track record of this position.
Also more practically, being California state chair (our largest affiliate) certainly qualifies as merit, and I also think the clear message from the delegates is that they want “new blood” trained up.  At-Large is often where that happens.
Bill is incredible.  I enjoy working with him and he has always been someone I have enjoyed working with, but for the reasons noted above, I am supporting Adrian.

She thinks the world revolves around her. It is quite ridiculous.
