In summary, the Democrats followed the Dean Plan — build infrastructure that lasts in all 50 states.  The Republicans ran expensive campaigns that enrich the consultant class but leave nothing behind them.  As a result, the Republicans lost. This is an important lesson for all third parties.

Readers will find profound similarities between the losing strategy of the Republicans and the Libertarian National Committee strategy of fixating on putting the Presidential candidate on the ballot everywhere.  The $45,000 spent on putting Al Ozonoff — he’s a good guy who agreed to run for Massachusetts State Auditor; so do not blame him — on the ballot in Massachusetts left approximately nothing behind except enhanced obstacles to ballot access for all of our 2028 Massachusetts candidates except one, that being the 2028 Presidential candidate.  The same money or part of it might have secured minor party status and nomination by convention in Indiana, where as of this typing our hard-working candidate seems to have fallen just short of 2% of the vote.
