ALSP Changes Name, Membership

The Association of Liberty State Parties is becoming the Liberal Party of the United States.  Their affiliated parties to date are libertarian groups that had unfortunate interactions with the Libertarian National Committee or the Mises Caucus, namely the Libertarian Party of New Mexico, the Classical Liberal Party of Virginia, the Libertarian Association of Massachusetts, and the Keystone Party of Pennsylvania.  The last-named group  may be changing its name from Keystone.

Even classical liberal is problematic because it attracts liberal statists. But if this one removes the most liberal statists, the ones who thought Bill Weld was an appropriate libertarian candidate and believed his lies about not undermining libertarianism, good. If it removes the ones who failed – or refused – to criticize the riots during black lives matter protests during early summer of 2020. They should at least have waited until after the 2024 convention when if we are very lucky the Mises Caucus will collapse, victim of its own failures. As this party sure will be far sooner than others might predict.

Liberal would not have been my first choice but since progressive is now the preferred term for the left I don’t think it’s a pejorative anymore.

Glad to see this! I don’t love the name because of the associations most people have with the word “liberal” but I don’t have any better ideas.

The associations people have with the word ‘liberal’ works in its favor. It could pick up some votes from uninformed voters.
