Signature Membership growth was at an all time low in 2023, but there are some asterisks to that. First, in 2017 and 2018 there were list purges of deceased persons that have to be excluded. And second, the differences between the new method of counting and the old method have produced such radically different results that it’s really an apples to oranges comparison. However, of the three years where we have both data (2020 – 2022), all three had significantly higher signature membership growth using the new method. Which would be a bad sign for 2023, since that is below every other year of the lower producing old method.
So… if two months of list purges are excluded AND an apples to oranges comparison is made, then 2023 had the slowest rate of signature membership growth on record, with data back to 2005.
