Absent Members

Last updated on December 4, 2024

Two LNC members were absent for the LNC vote.  Mr. Redpath, we are told, had a wedding in the family, and had advised the national chair of this conflict well in advance.  Mr. Darr was at a meeting of the Texas LP, and knew that his alternate, Mr. Thompson, would cover everything.

We are receiving posts claiming that the meeting was supposed to be kept in executive session because Roberts says so.  However, the Bylaws trump Roberts, and say the opposite.  We are tired of comments from people invoking Roberts as trumping the bylaws, so those people will not be heard from here in the future.

“trumps” is just fine as its origin is not the President-elect but from card games such as bridge and pinochle.

“supersedes” is fine, as is “subordinates.”

But keep in mind the suspension vote was required to be 2/3 of the entire LNC, not just those present and voting.

THANK YOU. Did you notice they deleted the LNC Business List?

Had those people botheres to read Roberts before invoking it they may have read that Roberts puts its self at the bottom of parlamentary authority that essentially exists for when there is no other applicable rule or practice. As has been stated, the bylaws overrides Robert’s as does just about everything.

We all really need to find another verb to use instead of the T word. Perhaps supersedes? I think even Robert itself uses that verb instead of the T word…

Perhaps if any of these commenters had actually read the libertarian party bylaws, in particular article 16, which is at the bottom of page 10 of the PDF you can find referenced on lp.org…

Enough on bylaws. I wouldn’t think that Redpath would miss a meeting without telling anyone why. Obviously the other member was just as conscientious. I am glad to see that we now know more about what happened. Thank you for the update!
