Mises Caucus Organization Part 1 of Several

Our news source within the Mises Caucus is supplying us with new and interesting material on that caucus.  The following is the first of an uncertain number of articles on this topic. Here is a segment on Caucus organization:

*This document is a supplementary document to the Organizers Agreement as is the Platform, the Mises Caucus Core Values and Culture document, the Mises Caucus Branding Document, and the Mises Caucus Business Plan. These documents should all be read within the context of being related to each other and before signing off on the Organizers Agreement.

The Structure of the Mises Caucus

Purpose of the Structure: The Mises Caucus is structured to maximize the benefits of decentralization while ensuring that everyone is working together productively toward the same goal. The Executive Committee depends on the reciprocal flow of information and feedback from everyone in the organization so that it can effectively make strategic and tactical decisions and delegate tasks to rest of the organization, while providing our teams, organizers, and members with the tools, best practices, strategies, information, and other forms of support they need in order to be successful.

Executive Committee

The Mises Caucus Executive Committee (hereafter “ExCom”) is the legal entity known as Mises PAC. It is the sole financial, strategic, and fiduciary decision-making body for the Mises Caucus throughout the United States of America. ExCom shall have the exclusive power to: a) create and manage our brand, structure, policies, and code of conduct; b) create, support, and staff departments, divisions, and teams to carry out our mission; c) create and support Mises Caucus organizations in each state; d) endorse candidates for public office and for positions in the Libertarian Party; e) organize and direct all of our members and subsidiary teams and organizations at each Libertarian National Convention; and f) build friendships, partnerships, alliances, etc. with other organizations.

Departments

The top-level organizational units are Departments, which are led by Directors and which specialize in broad areas of activity that pertain to carrying out the Mises Caucus Platform and purpose.

Party Organizing Department—This department recruits and onboards new state and regional organizers, and trains them on how to carry out the four-point strategy. It keeps the state organizers up-to-date on caucus tactics, software, protocols or endorsements. It also helps mobilize members for state and national conventions.

Candidate Support Department—To survey candidates running for public office, focusing on the county level and below, in order to determine which candidates are suitable for endorsements and/or campaign contributions from Mises PAC. The Candidate Support Department also develops and carries out protocols to help identify, recruit, mobilize and train candidates and volunteers to support those candidates.

Issue Coalition Department—To form friendly working relationships with other organizations from all over the political spectrum with whom we can work together toward libertarian political outcomes on single issues. Issue Coalitions require networking with other organizations or even parties, lobbying city council, knocking doors for a ballot initiative effort and other campaign activities.

Communications Department—Responsible for the activity of the caucus across all communication mediums such as email, video, podcast, website articles, and social media. There are several teams under the umbrella of communications.

IT Department—To set and carry out the technological roadmap of the caucus and aid in its implementation. This encompasses our CRM, website, data, security, software, and hardware tools. Assists in advising and servicing all Departments in their IT needs, including designing, developing, implementing, deploying, or training on specific information technology solutions.

Marketing Department – To set and carry out the marketing strategy of the caucus and implement it, coordinating with other teams as needed. Manages the brand, promotions, advertising accounts, brainstorms campaigns, and tracks ROI.

    A.k.a: democratic centralism.

You mean like “No affiliate party shall endorse any candidate who is a member of another party for public office in any partisan election. No affiliate party shall take any action inconsistent with the Statement of Principles or these bylaws?”

I don’t believe the LNC is the “sole decision making body” and affiliate autonomy has been a hallmark of the party. Left and right lateral limits are put in place, like if you want to be a Libertarian you can’t also be a Republican. I realize that is inconvenient for the MC but that’s the guidelines. And trying to equate a centralized power structure with what the LNC was originally set up as is like saying both North Korea and America are republics. They may share some similarities, but they are not the same.
