New Motions Before LNC

There are new motions before the LNC. As readers will recall, Adrian Malagon was elected to his current LNC position by the LNC, because new LNC Chair Steve Nekhaila said that Malagon was essential.

Adrian Malagon

Move the following:

To require the LNC to do a daily dump, effective immediately, of all their communication with each other where anything that could be considered LNC or LP business is discussed, including but not limited to phone calls (record them where state law allows), texts, emails, and all direct messages.

That the same apply to all subcommittees and their members unless they explicitly go into Executive Session.

That links be provided for all subcommittee meetings to the membership on the public list.

And

To abolish all secrecy on the LNC and its subcommittees as subjectively defined by whoever so believes to be an affected party of said secrecy, under penalty of removal if violated.

Motion:

That every voting member of the LNC or any subcommittee, provide a minimum 500 word written or verbal explanation with their vote for the benefit of the membership and general public.

Just caught great new podcast, Jon Stewart/Nick Gillespie,
Libertarian says what? Tad short of hour and half. On
    Youtube. Enlightening, interesting.

I volunteered for the Travis County LP menial tasks division in the 80s, then for the Libertarian Defense Caucus after a stint at Access to Energy. I’ve been appalled and shocked by anarcho-communist infiltration–even more so by Christian National Socialist infiltration. This news source, assembled by someone competent to teach physics, is the brightest light I’ve seen since our 2016 leveraged clout vote count, and I thank you for it.

The Libertarian Transparency Caucus endorses this motion and hopes it passes in order to move the LNC forward in a positive direction. The LNC represents the Party members and should justify its actions in all cases, not hide behind “secrecy,” with executive session being limited in scope and minimal in use.

However, it should be noted that the requirement to record phone calls and all texts and emails on private machines is very questionable in practice unless the Party is going to issue phones, tablets, or laptops for official business only. And a minimum 500 word essay? This isn’t junior-high school English class. An explanation of any length would suffice, provided it is substantive and not a “because I said so” cop out.

Subjective interpretation by someone who thinks that they are affected is also a loophole big enough to drive a fleet of Mack trucks through. Fear of removal under that standard doesn’t promote transparency; it suppresses speech.

In further contemplation, the Libertarian Transparency Caucus rescinds its endorsement and suggests that the motion be fixed to something resembling logical and sensible. This may be on the right track in terms of principle, but in implementation, it’s definitely not what it could be or should be.

Congratulations to Adrian Malagon for his inspirational leadership is advocating for the highest of transparency for the LNC!

The volunteer board should express itself as clearly on every vote.

    No more privacy for them.

If you really support openness, this is appropriate.

Certainly getting rid of secrecy is well intention, but I’m not sure how they are going to enforce it.

And the motion requiring a minimum of 500 word explanation of a vote. Does that apply to every vote cast? If it does, how will they enforce it in physical meetings? That will slow everything down with everyone furiously writing on their laptop or mobile device at the table to explain why they are going to vote for or against something.

Are they going to subpoena phone records of members? What happens if member A calls member B and one of them does not turn in a recording? Will there be an increase in the use of burner phones?

Again, it is well intentioned, There really doesn’t need to be secrecy, but humans are humans and they always will be secret to some extent.

What about conversations between members walking around in the hotel between sessions at a physical meeting? Do they have to record and report those conversations?

“requiring a minimum of 500 word explanation of a vote.”
malicious compliance would be repeating the phrase “I felt like supporting/opposing this.” 100 times!

also, I doubt Mr. Malagon supports this, but is rather making the motion so he can later say “see, the LNC voted against transparency so we don’t have to make anything available to members!”

      • Damian Damian February 24, 2025

Off course. That’s Malagon’s way and will waste time with BS theatrics because he does not like some people agreed with his archenemy Robson. Nekhaila needs to take control. Malagon cares for no one and will turn on Nekhaila once convenient. He will never comply with his own virtue signal which may pass from Mises losers.

It is a legitimate motion. Do you object to those?

      • Stewart Flood Stewart Flood February 24, 2025

Or one person will write an opinion when the motion is submitted, and everyone else will just cut and paste…

I’m confused. Is the LNC now safely in the black?

    • Stewart Flood Stewart Flood February 24, 2025

The numbers are a bit confusing. And of course, even in the best of times, with membership growing and donations coming in at a steady pace, no party is ever “safely in the black”.

I don’t think anyone will know what position they are in until all of the contribution mechanisms from the election have ended, and all the expenses associated with them have been paid. There is still a lot of money flowing in and out.

Dr. Phillies has done a lot more analysis over the years of the LNC’s financial position than just about anyone else. I am sure he is still looking at the numbers from the last few months. Hopefully, he can give us an opinion of where they are sometime in the near future.
