Novel Campaign Positions for Libertarian Candidates

The Editor is quoting part of a longer article that appeared on Daily Kos from NoFortunateSon.  Most of the article is about Governor Pritzker’s statement today threatening legal lawfare against illegal Trump actions.  NoFortunateSon was addressing Democrats, but this message also works for Libertarians:

There is a lot Democrats can legitimately say… if they have the courage:

Are you a member of ICE? Are you breaking the law? Democrats could theoretically threaten to make private information for lawbreakers public when back in power.

Did your corporation illegally bribe Trump? Democrats could jail your executives and even pursue the corporate death penalty. Or maybe nationalize you?

Did your University bend the knee? Democrats can threaten to withhold funding to Universities who discontinued DEI and targeted transgender individuals.

Did your law firm do free work for Trump? A Democratic Administration could threaten to blacklist those firms.

Are you MAGA and on a visa? Democrats could threaten to deport you this time. See how you like Uganda.

Are you a Country who aided and abetted Trump’s deportation schemes? Listen, I’m not saying the CIA has a rich history of toppling governments, but maybe you should second guess your cooperation.

Are you National Guard? Are you breaking the Law while federalized? You’re going to Leavenworth.

Are you a foreign government cutting deals with (bribing) Trump? You will face stiff sanctions.

Are you a media company carrying water for Trump? Democrats in Congress will investigate you.

Democrats might be better advised to bring back triangulation. They should talk about how trade and immigration make America great. Be positive and optimistic, like Reagan.

More on this: Remember how Carter harped on about American “malaise”? And, then Reagan turned it around, and said America’s best years are ahead?

The Democrats today need to do something similar. They need to turn around Trump’s negativism and bad-mouthing, and talk about what they can do to make things better. I’m not sure if they can pull it off, though. Their own reactionary negativism brings them down, too.

Nevertheless, someone has to paint a positive picture of the future in order to win it. I have never before seen both parties wallow in so much defeatist negativism. I believe that whoever can promote the vision of a better tomorrow will win it.

It might help if Libertarians talked about trade and immigration.

Yes. i have to wonder what the Libertarian Party thinks about trade and immigration today. I don’t hear much from the national party.

Fight fire with water, not gasoline.
