LNC Meeting December 7, 2025

Last updated on December 11, 2025

Postscript: This meeting was much calmer and more productive than most other LNC meetings of the past few years.  It’s remarkable how disruptive a few pears in the apple basket can be, and how much quieter things are when they are absent..

Addendum: The National Chair indicates that we misunderstood several things that were said at the meeting.  We will investigate this matter when the minutes become available.

They are discussing approval voting for the Credentials Committee.  Top 5 will be the committee, the next five will be the alternates.  Most of the nominees had contacted at least some LNC members. Committee members are speaking in favor of various people.  Ken Moellman appears to rise to the top.  There is sentiment for Susan Hogarth.  The computer software caused difficulties. They are using computer software instead of paper ballots, so after a quarter hour they have not yet been able to vote. The software cannot handle more than ten candidates without charging the Secretary some number of dollars. They now started on this close to 3/4 of an hour ago. And now they have elected five committee members, but no alternates.

They advance to platform committee appointees.  There are 23 nominees, I think.  LNC members are speaking in favor of particular nominees. No everything is quiet while the Secretary is persuading the software to advance.  It has advanced.  They are now voting.

They advance to the Award Committee nominations. Several people are talking at the same time.  The list of nominees is shorter than the maximum allowed, so the nominees are accepted.

They advance to the Ballot Access Committee. All people who applied were nominated en bloc. There is a  speech for NOTA, opposing LNC support for ‘ballot access’ and saying this should be purely a state responsibility.  Some later speakers disagree, though ‘ballot access’, ’50-state ballot access’,  and ‘ballot access for all Federal candidates’ are not the same thing.  They vote.  Seven people are elected.

Individual LNC members are asked what they did as individuals outside of their duties to the LNC.  There is no apparent advance of the National Committee.

They adjourn.
