LNC Apparently Considers Computer Data Breach

We see on the LNC Public list a posting referring to an investigation of a data breach.  We are not certain which breach is referenced.  John Ponty at Liberty Sentries writes us:

In February this year I published an article, stating how according to the Libertarian National Committee’s own database that, at the time, over 200 persons were listed as sustaining members while also listed as never signing the membership pledge:
medium.com/the-liberty-sentries/exclusive-hundred-of-lp-members-never-signed-pledge-f37019c5c403

He also reports a letter of inquiry, apparently from a law firm to a party supporter, saying:

After this report, the Committee decided to have an investigation done by a company chosen by their insurance carrier, Octillo Law PLLC, on whether there had been a breach in data. Octillo Law sent an email to me as well as others in order to garner information, including requesting an unrelated third party to sign an attestation because they had discussed my reporting: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1B5sU2gvLD/
This email thread, which was removed from the public list, appears to confirm that the investigation by Octillo Law has been completed, though they are not publishing the letter as of yet.
The email exchange referring to the report reads

Thank you Hannah and Andy. Do we have an idea of how much this whole thing has cost the LNC? Or was everything covered through the policy?

Aloha all,

For the record, this thread concerns matters within the scope of my ongoing whistleblower complaints filed with the LNC, including the August 2025 conflicts-of-interest complaint, the September 2025 ethics complaint regarding undisclosed conflicts, and other related items.

The matters discussed include the apparent membership data breach, the conduct of officers responsible for the response, the application of statutory inspection rights under DC Code § 29-413.05, and related governance failures.

Accordingly, I am designating this subject, including this thread, and my participation on it, as part of those complaints. Communications on this thread should be treated as part of the protected record.

I am providing this notice as a professional courtesy due to the sensitive nature of the designated subject matter.

It will be published accordingly to protect the interests of the organization.

Mahalo,

Board,

Please find attached the findings and resulting actions of the investigation into the data breach. IT staff is copied in case the board has questions or would like to request more context for anything in the letter. This will be the last major communication on the issue, outside of verification that our responsibilities have been fulfilled regarding notification of affected data holders.
